Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Community College invites applications for Workforce faculty positions. The College seeks faculty who will adapt to a variety of teaching situations, can use technology to teach effectively, and will work effectively with students, staff, and others in a climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.
Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College’s mission and goals; upholding the College’s values; and personal and program evaluation.
Workforce faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
The work schedule for this position requires flexibility to teach classes scheduled throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall semesters.
2. Instruct students in competency-based program curriculum using current instructional strategies appropriate to the subject matter to assure highest quality classroom instruction.
3. Effectively manage the classroom to create an optimal learning environment.
4. Maintain up-to-date records of student attendance, academic progress and grades as required by district policy and certification/regulatory agencies.
5. Ensure syllabus, supply list and lesson plans are current prior to each class taught.
6. Demonstrate effective people skills, communication skills and professionalism (i.e. – prepared, reliable, responsible, punctual, etc.).
7. Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of SWCC’s program.
8. Participate in professional development opportunities as required by SWCC.
9. Perform all other duties as assigned by management from time to time.
