Compensation and Benefits
- Starting Pay Range: $20 - $23/hour

Purpose of the Job
The Utility Operator position assists with the installation, repair and maintenance of the company's water distribution system.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position will be willing and able to perform the following duties and others as assigned:
- Assist with construction activities, installation and repair of water mains, fire hydrants, valves, and services
- Perform service assembly repair
- Inspect and operate valves
- Install, relocate, and adjust meter boxes
- Flush fire hydrants for water quality control
- Perform meter exchanges and minor meter repairs
Position Requirements
- Some knowledge of basic plumbing repair and installation preferred
- Previous construction experience or related experience preferred
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools
- Ability to dig and work at depths in excess of 5 feet
- Familiarity with safety practices and procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Great customer service skills; professional and courteous approach to customer interactions
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires muscular coordination and fully body mobility for bending, stooping, lifting and raising objections to a maximum of 90 pounds. Hand, wrist, and arm dexterity for working with tools in tight spaces and for safe operation of vehicles and construction equipment. Ability to visually distinguish utility markings and differentiate colors for construction markings, measurement and diagnostic tools, instruments meters, maps, and drawings. Sufficient hearing to work safety in outside areas that are often confined and congested, and for contact on 2-way radio for emergency situations. Has the ability to walk for long distances with little fatigue, and has the ability to use small hand tools and other operating equipment for specific jobs. Frequently works outside and may be subjected to adverse working conditions, inclement weather, and extended and night time hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employee works outdoors and at plant facilities; employee may be subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; exposure to physical hazards from equipment with moving parts, high voltage electrical equipment, hazardous chemicals, bacteria in wastewater.

H.S. Diploma or GED in General
