Job Summary
The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program, including but not limited to recruiting, scheduling, training, monitoring academic progress, promotions, fundraising, and coaching team members. The Assistant Coach is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Southwestern College, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, and the NAIA. This is a full-time, twelve-month position reporting directly to the Head Coach.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting with all aspects of the coaching and management of the football program
- Recruiting and scouting in accordance with the NAIA, KCAC, and Southwestern College policies and procedures
- Train and coach members of the program on offense
- Assist with budget management, fundraising, and alumni development
- Supporting the academic and personal development of all athletes
- Visible, fully integrated member of the College community
- Assist with tracking the admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes, and for working collaboratively with the Faculty Athletic Representative in this regard
- Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations of the NAIA as it relates to the program
- Represent Southwestern College and the program in a professional manner
- Responsible for being a proponent of the NAIA Champions of Character Program
General Expectations
The assistant coach is expected to be a person of integrity with high ethical standards and will require the same of fellow staff members and student-athletes. Employees are expected to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed.
Qualifications and Special Skills:
- Previous competitive football coaching and recruiting experience is required. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and head coaching experience or at least 5 years of coaching experience in football.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured to drive college vehicles required
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
- Knowledge of intercollegiate football program
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of computers and software applications, specifically Microsoft Office
- Skill preparing, monitoring, and maintaining budgets
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and to relate to others in a professional, helpful manner
- Ability to relate to a diverse population and to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations
- Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate action to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
