What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Choral Activities and Voice position at Southwestern College?
Southwestern College seeks a vibrant individual to direct and expand the College’s choral program. Envisioned as a curricular and co-curricular experience for students, vocal music participation has been and remains an important way for students to express themselves, work together, tell important narratives about our society, and grow in skill and leadership. The director will be responsible for all aspects of the program. Co-curricular duties will include: large and small choral ensembles of traditional, musical theatre, and contemporary commercial music nature. The successful candidate will direct A Capella Choir and SC Singers and teach private vocal lessons and other courses as assigned. Bringing strategic leadership, the choral director will collaborate with a variety of college personnel and offices to ensure effective outreach, student recruitment, student development, and marketing. A dedicated passion for helping students reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment is essential to this position.
The successful candidate will bring energy, passion, and commitment to providing a first-class and deeply engaging experiential learning opportunity for students. Candidates must have experience teaching courses, applied lessons, and directing ensembles in the areas of choral/vocal music. Applicants possessing a Masters degree in choral conducting or related area will be considered. Additionally, high school teaching experience is desired. This ten-month staff position includes a generous benefits package. Salary is reflective of training and experience.

Responsibilities include:
- Leading the planning, development, and implementation of a choral program
- Successfully recruiting students, based upon agreed-upon goals, for choral ensembles
- Supervising student leaders to create and produce choral and voice concerts and performances
- Budgeting, management of all aspects of the choral ensembles and concerts, and providing leadership for the program
- Collaborating with colleagues in the creative arts, across campus and Southwestern College leadership to create a choral program that promotes excellence in a liberal arts environment
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in choral music or a closely related field.
- At least five years experience in managing, leading, and collaborating to produce choral and vocal performances.
