Position Summary
The ELA Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to adult learners in English Language Acquisition (ELA) courses. The instructor will design and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans that align with English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education and use student performance data to guide instruction. This position requires effective communication and relationship management with partner locations, faculty, staff, and students to support learning and student success inside and outside the classroom.

Instruction & Lesson Planning:
The ELA Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction to adult learners in English Language Acquisition (ELA) courses. The instructor will design and implement engaging, student-centered lesson plans that align with English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education and use student performance data to guide instruction. This position requires effective communication and relationship management with partner locations, faculty, staff, and students to support learning and student success inside and outside the classroom.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Adult Education, or a related field.
- Experience in teaching adult learners and an understanding of adult learning principles.
- Experience/certification in teaching English as a second language.
- Experience in lesson planning that incorporates data-driven instruction and contextualized learning with a focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the English language.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate student records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining professional competence.
- Proficiency in using technology for instruction, student engagement, and administrative tasks.
Instruction & Lesson Planning:
- Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered lessons that align with English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education and meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Utilize student performance data to guide instruction and ensure academic growth.
- Implement contextualized curriculum in reading, writing, speaking, and listening to enhance learning.
- Prepare and teach assigned courses with some flexibility offered.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive, and engaging learning environment for adult learners.
- Assist in student retention and recruitment efforts to promote program growth.
- Provide individualized instruction and support to help students meet their academic and career goals.
- Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, student folders, and progress tracking.
- Submit all required college reports in an accurate and timely manner.
- Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and partner locations.
- Communicate regularly with partner sites to ensure program alignment and smooth operation.
- Stay up to date on best practices in adult education through professional development opportunities.
