JOB SUMMARY:
The Controller leads and directs the finance and accounting operations of the Company and prepares financial analyses, including financial statements, for the guidance of management to make data-based decisions. This position is responsible for the financial processes and policies, their accounting practices, the maintenance of their fiscal records, the preparation of financial reports and guides the Company’s direction on financial decisions that affect profitability. The Controller leads general accounting, inventory, compensation, property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary controls. This position reports to the Company President while also maintaining accountability and alignment with the CFO and other key stakeholders. The incumbent must provide excellent customer service to team members and external customers while demonstrating the company values and supporting the mission.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise, train, and mentor staff. Identify professional development opportunities and provide performance feedback on an ongoing basis.
- Direct the finance and accounting operations of the Company and prepare financial analyses, including financial statements, for the guidance of management to make data-based decisions
- Lead general accounting, inventory, compensation, property accounting, cost accounting, and budgetary controls
- Responsible for the financial processes and policies, their accounting practices, the maintenance of their fiscal records, and the preparation of financial reports
- Oversee the financial statement close process and accounting system including recording of journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and preparing the monthly financial statement package
- Assist in the annual budget and forecasting process
- Review and approve invoices, commission wires, timesheets, and payroll
- Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the business for key persons
- Responsible for providing effective financial controls over the accounting system
- Responsible for the overall administration and calculation of the commissions and compensation system, including systems controls
- Work directly with the Information Technology team to ensure accuracy of all data and resolve discrepancies in the compensation system
- Review compensation and incentive plans periodically and design new plans as need
- Compile compensation analysis for all sales leaders including income histories, vision projections, as well as other sales metric statistics
- Approve advances and monitor sales activity in order to validate and recommend necessary modifications to leadership
- Interface with management and department heads to answer compensation and business questions; facilitate problem solving
- Assist the President and CFO in special projects and other assigned tasks as necessary
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
- 7 years of experience in financial management, with increasing level of responsibility throughout
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel
- Requires independent judgement
- Requires complex analysis and understanding of different pay plans
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while accomplishing daily tasks
