ANNOUNCEMENT: Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track position of Instructor in the Nursing Education program within the Nursing division.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, the successful applicant will serve as instructor in the Nursing Education program. As an instructor, the individual will teach Nursing Education, Nurse Assistant, or Practical Nursing courses in both the traditional and computerized environment. The individual will also assess student performance and collaborate with Nursing faculty to evaluate the effectiveness of instruction in the program/courses. Opportunities exist for participation in professional development activities and service on departmental, divisional, and/or college-wide committees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master of Science in Nursing required.
2. Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois, or the ability to obtain such a license prior to the start of official employment is required.
3. Minimum of two (2) years; experience teaching of clinical nursing practice. Diversity in clinical practice experience including med-surg, OB, and psych is preferable.
4. Prior teaching experience in an accredited ADN nursing program is preferred.
5. Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and advising skills.
6. Must meet and continue to maintain the professional standards established by the program’s accrediting agencies, including the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
7. Competency with applicable software systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Blackboard, etc.) preferred.
8. Ability to meet, successfully complete and maintain minimum health requirements, drug and/or reference checks required by the college and/or clinical facilities prior to and throughout employment.
9. Shall meet the minimum standards of instruction establish by the Administration and the Board of Trustees for any assigned courses
10. 5. Qualified through education and/or experience to assure proficiency in, but not limited to, the following areas:
- Curriculum design
- Instructional methodology
- Testing and evaluation
- Educational psychology
11. A valid driver’s license is required.
STARTING SALARY: This is a nine-month teaching position with the salary determined by placement on the base salary schedule. For example, the minimum 2025-2026 starting salary at Step 1 on the Master’s degree column is $53,021. Overload and summer teaching assignments may also be available which would increase the annual compensation. The College offers a comprehensive flexible benefits program.
