Job Summary:

SWOSU is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Human Resources to lead and oversee all aspects, of the university’s HR functions. The Director of HR will play a critical role in fostering a positive, inviting, and productive work environment for faculty, staff, and administrators. This position is responsible for developing and implementing HR strategies that align with the university’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and a collaborative leader.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

· Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives that support the university’s mission and strategic objectives.

· Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on all HR-related matters, including organizational development, talent management, and employee relations.

· Promote a positive culture across the university community.

· Supervise and coordinate with the Title IX and Safety Compliance Coordinator to ensure workplace safety, compliance with health and safety regulations, and promote a culture of well-being among university employees.

Talent Acquisition and Retention:

· Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes to attract and retain top talent.

· Develop and implement programs to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

· Lead workforce planning efforts to ensure the university has the talent needed to achieve its goals.

Employee Relations and Compliance:

· Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

· Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.

· Lead conflict resolution and employee relations by mediating disputes, conducting investigations, and implementing fair and consistent solutions that align with university policies and employment law.

· Maintain and update the SWOSU Staff Handbook to reflect current policies, procedures, and employment regulations.

Compensation and Benefits:

· Work closely with senior leadership on establishing and implementing SWOSU’s compensation practices.

· Ensure the university’s compensation practices remain competitive.

· Manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.

· Promote employee morale through recognition programs, engagement initiatives, and a positive workplace culture.

Professional Development and Training:

· Develop and implement comprehensive staff development programs that promote professional growth and organizational effectiveness.

· Promote leadership development and succession planning initiatives.

· Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

HR Operations and Technology:

· Oversee the HR information system (HRIS) and ensure accurate and efficient HR data management.

· Streamline HR processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

· Prepare and manage the HR department budget.

· Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, talent management, and employee relations.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills, with a commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture.

· Stay current on evolving employment laws, HR best practices, and trends, disseminating relevant information to university employees.

· Strong leadership and team-building skills.

· Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.

  • Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commitment to professionalism, ethical standards, and confidentiality in HR operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting and fostering diverse work environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as intermediate proficiency in mathematics and accounting principles.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment laws, compliance requirements, and HR best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field.

· Experience in higher education or public sector human resources management.

· HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR).

· Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the President of SWOSU finds appropriate.

Work Setting:

· Expectation of on-campus presence with attendance and punctuality.

· Availability to address HR-related matters outside regular working hours as needed via in-person, phone, or email contact.

· Promote personal safety, safety procedures, and a safe work environment.

· Reports to Vice President of Administration & Finance

· Full-time status

· 12-month appointment

· Exempt

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
