Academic and Career Planning (40% of Time)
- Provide ongoing advising to students on a “caseload” basis and backup resources for the balance of advisees.
- Meet one on one with students to determine academic and career goals.
- Screen and assist students in applying for internships, apprenticeships, and work-based learning opportunities in their program areas.
- Aid students with completing their degree plans while incorporating short/long-term educational and career goals. This includes communicating degree and pre-requisite requirements, developing a class schedule, and aligning courses with transfer and career goals.
- Monitors the academic progress of assigned students, naming current and potential needs or problem areas, such as study skills and tutoring, and helping students access college resources.
- Advise students in a wide range of formats, including in person, via email, text, and phone, to coordinate goals, abilities, and resources in formulating a first-term plan based on interests, skills, and exploration that aligns with available academic programs and aligns them with completion requirements of their chosen educational path.
- Coordinate with various departments (e.g., Athletics, ASG, housing, etc.) to provide adequate training and understanding of their staff in career advising and access available retention and success resources.
- Support career-related student clubs and organizations.
Career Exploration (30% of Time)
- Develop and present career exploration programs for undecided students and targeted academic populations.
- Use professional experiences and resources, career exploration inventories, and related software to help students with career choices.
- Work with academic departments to integrate career-related content into the curriculum and promote experiential learning opportunities that align with students' career goals
- Stay up to date on emerging trends and best practices in career development and apply this knowledge to improve programming and services
- Plan, develop, and implement exploration opportunities, including career fairs, industry visits, and similar activities
- Connect industry representatives to participants through job shadowing and mentoring opportunities for further career exploration and to build interest in local workforce opportunities.
- Develop employer relationships, internship plans and placement for students.
- Assess effectiveness of internship program and implement program changes to facilitate successful internships.
Career Search Services (30% of Time)
- Aid students in the job search and recommend them on procedures for obtaining employment either one-on-one or in a group setting.
- Provide support and training for students and staff on Career Coach or similar career system.
- Develop and deliver workshops and seminars on a variety of career-related topics, including resume writing, interviewing skills, and job search strategies
- Help students prepare for job placement by performing resume reviews and mock interviews for students and graduates.
- Act as the lead administrator in implementing and keeping the Handshake system to help with job and internship postings.
- Coordinate career-related events and activities, such as career fairs, employer panels, and workshops, that provide adult students with opportunities to engage with employers and gain valuable career-related skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Education, Psychology, related field.
Two (2) years of relevant experience working with students or clients required.

- Knowledge of college entrance procedures and programs of study. Knowledge of the world of work, assessment testing, and the transfer process.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter. Ability to effectively communicate orally with groups and/or individuals, and interact with peers, the public and the community in a positive, empathetic and professional manner.
- Strong analytical skills, be self-motivated and goal-oriented, be highly organized, and be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to create relationships within the regional industry to address needs of career technical programs and the ability to successfully collaborate with federal, state and local partners in education, workforce and industry.
- Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds, life experiences and abilities, including community members, students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to follow established college and department procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures. Ability to implement general directives and Board policies in the assigned areas of responsibility. Ability to explain established policies and procedures using judgment and diplomacy.
- Exhibit a high level of computer literacy, sufficient to use software such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to produce correspondence, documents and reports. Ability to use Internet, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel as needed. Able to learn and function in the College’s information management system.
- Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours and possible weekends/evenings, as well as work days at other college locations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree.
Previous higher education experience.
Career Counseling or Career Coaching experience strongly preferred.
Proven relationship with business and industry strongly preferred.
