Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Case Manager/Investigator at SOUTHWESTERN OREGON PUBLIC DEFENDER SERVICES INC (SWOPDS) in Coos Bay, Oregon. This position requires an ability to work with a wide variety of people, including those suffering from substance use disorder, mental health issues, homelessness, poverty, medical issues, and combinations of these and other struggles. A case manager will assist clients in accessing services needed to successfully navigate the criminal or juvenile justice systems or in their work with the Oregon Department of Human Services Child Welfare as needed. A case manager is also expected to assist attorneys throughout client representation in various ways in support of the attorney-client relationship so that the attorney can focus on the needed legal work. Investigation may include interviewing and collecting information from community members, witnesses, friends, or family members of clients, meeting with clients when they are in custody, or taking photographs. All employees of SWOPDS are bound by attorney-client privilege and may not use or disclose information collected or learned during the course of their employment to anyone for any purpose other than that which the attorney in charge of the case explicitly directs.
Qualifications
- Experience in any of the following fields: substance use disorder support or treatment, mental health support or treatment, social work, parent or peer mentoring, or life skills coaching.
- Compassion and patience.
- Excellent Communication skills
- Self-motivated and reliable.
- Ability to legally transport self to and from court and other needed destinations.
- Ability to draft reports to attorneys reflecting work done on a case or information collected.
- Excellent time management skills.
