The Retail Manager oversees and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Lenexa location, store sales, and some repair work. Retail Manager will work with the owner to recruit, retain and train staff, manage inventory, and maintain a thriving business and community in Lenexa. Bicycle retail is customer service-intensive, and the Retail Manager is expected to be knowledgeable about the products in the shop and in our main brands’ portfolios, and able to set a high standard for sales and customer service excellence.
Retail Manager will be the face of Southwind in Lenexa, and should be able to radiate professionalism, respect and a welcoming attitude to customers, and work with community partners to build a cycling community. This is a new location, and the perfect opportunity for the right person!
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Retail manager will be responsible for hiring, training and supervising both year-round and seasonal staff. Training happens in-store, through virtual resources, and with yearly travel opportunities coordinated with the owner and other location managers.
- Supervision: manager will supervise operations in new bike and accessory sales and in service center operations, and should have experience and a clear idea of how to
- Direct sales: the retail manager’s main duties will be to assist customers to find their perfect bike, accessories, or repairs and to work with service techs to provide top-tier bike shop experiences to our customers. As we grow, manager will oversee junior sales staff.
- Manages inventory, both in store and online, and works closely with owner to bring in new products and keep ahead of industry trends, as well as track and maintain performance indicators for profitability.
- Light mechanical repairs: fixing flat tires, minor adjustments, etc. We’re not hiring a mechanic, but simple repairs and checks of tuneups will be expected.
- Work closely with owner to establish, maintain, and enforce procedures, policies and daily practices to ensure excellence and profitability.
- Maintain proper security for the store.
- Keeps abreast of competition and new ideas and work in the community to create a bike-friendly town.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for cycling, and desire to cultivate an inclusive cycling community
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field a plus, or experience
- 3-5 years of customer service experience.
- Experience working in a retail environment, preferably in cycling, fitness or other boutique retail
- Experience in e-commerce a plus.
- Experience in managing and cultivating a sales team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to learn new things, problem solve, and prioritize tasks
- Commitment to customer service and building community.
Salary range and application
Competitive salary, Simple IRA, PTO, and bonuses for reaching goals. Typical working hours will be 9:30-6:00 T-F, 9:30-5:00 Saturday, with some additional hours expected during peak season, less expected in off-season. Apply by sending resume and references to
