What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tram Tour Guide (Summer Temporary) position at Space Center Houston?
We are currently seeking Summer temporary Tram Tour Guides. All Guest Operations Crew Members are responsible for providing inspiring educational experiences and exceptional guest service to guests visiting Space Center Houston. Summer temporary crew members generally begin working in May or June (depending on availability) and work through mid-August. Responsibilities and qualifications are shown below:
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Narrate and present an informative and engaging tour of NASA Johnson Space Center to educate and inspire Space Center Houston guests. Develop and maintain an informed level of knowledge of locations/content presented on the tour, NASA programs and the past, present and future of manned space flight. Provide a memorable guest experience.
Proactively engage and converse with guests waiting to board tours. Assist in loading and unloading guests on trams or other vehicles in a safe and efficient manner. Ensure the effective flow of guests through the locations and buildings on the tour.
Respond promptly to guest questions or needs including communicating concerns or challenging situations to the appropriate supervisory level.
Communicate and engage with guests in a friendly, courteous and professional manner. Provide memorable interactions with guests.
Place safety first when carrying out position duties. Understand and execute all emergency and evacuation procedures and assist guests as needed during urgent situations.
Serve all guests by informing them about membership benefits and additional experiences like tours, dining, souvenir photos, the gift shop, and parking assistance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
One year of work experience in a field requiring public speaking skills preferred.
Ability to learn and effectively present a large amount of information in an engaging manner.
Ability to develop and maintain an informed level of knowledge of locations/content presented on the tour, NASA programs and the past, present and future of manned space flight.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a courteous and professional manner. A genuine desire and willingness to provide an excellent guest experience and proactively interact and engage with guests.
Ability to memorize and effectively communicate information. Must have the skills to communicate clearly and comfortably to both small and large groups.
Ability to exercise good judgement and sound reasoning in all interactions and decisions.
Willingness to work in a variety of work functions and locations including inside and/or outside in various weather conditions.
Ability to move through groups and crowded spaces and/or positioned in one location for long periods of time; climb stairs; and assist guests boarding trams or other vehicles.
Ability to follow all safety and evacuation procedures and assist guests in urgent situations.
Willingness and availability to work a flexible work schedule which may include various day and evening schedules, weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
Position may require successfully passing a criminal background investigation and/or drug screen as per Space Center Houston and/or NASA Johnson Space Center guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum age for employment is 17.
