COMPENSATION : $125,000 - $135,000
POSITION SUMMARY / OBJECTIVE :
The Controller is responsible for managing a variety of financial aspects of the Foundation. These aspects include maintenance of financial records based on Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, purchasing, purchasing card, and inventory, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable, banking, grants and donations. The Controller is responsible for grant and restricted donation management, applicable financial reporting, approval of accounts payable, payroll, invoicing and receipts processing, and enforcement of Space Foundation accounting policies and procedures.
The Controller reports to the Vice President - Finance & Accounting, interfacing regularly with customers and team members. They rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals, and is familiar with organizational goals, standards, policies and procedures. The Controller participates in short & mid-range departmental planning and will supervise three employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Develops and enforces accounting policies and procedures and ensures the accuracy and integrity of the procedures to produce accurate financial statements.
- Oversees and is involved in the day-to-day accounting functions to include : Purchasing, Purchasing Card, and Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Inventory, Banking, General Ledger Management, Grants and Restricted Donation Management.
- Manages a team of three accounting professionals engaged in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the accounting function.
- Develop financial performance tracking management systems for all grants and restricted donations; monitor their implementation and provide team assistance and reporting as necessary.
- Direct and implement the record retention policy.
- Provide data, guidance and financial performance reports to Foundation managers and team members to ensure sound business practices and federal contract requirements are being met.
- Prepares monthly financial statements and manages cash forecasting.
- Participates and helps construct annual budgets and rolling forecasts.
- Supervise, prepare workpapers and review annual and periodic audits.
- Supervise and review annual 990 tax return preparation and other periodic tax reporting requirements.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

Individuals in this position will generally work indoors and will have a workspace designated solely for them. Necessary office furnishings, equipment and supplies will be provided by the Foundation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may periodically be required to work outdoors and would be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The employee may periodically be required to work in an offsite environment or at special events, and from time-to-time may be asked to travel on Foundation business, at the Foundation's expense. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
JOB STATUS :
1) FLSA Classification : This position is exempt according to guidelines of the Fair Labor Standards Act and, as such, an individual in this position is not eligible to receive overtime pay.
2) Full- or Part-Time : This position is full-time in nature. An individual in this position will regularly work a schedule consisting of 40 hours per week.
3) Work Location : This position's primary worksite is the headquarters location in Colorado Springs, CO. The nature and responsibilities of this position are such that it is eligible for alternative worksite arrangements, such as working from home or telecommuting, on a consistent or recurring basis. Space Foundation's current hybrid policy allows for up to two work from home days per week.
4) Regular Schedule : Usual business days are Monday through Friday, holidays excepted, and usual business hours are from 8 : 00 A.M. to 5 : 00 P.M. in the time zone in which the position is located.
