What are the responsibilities and job description for the SURVEY CREW CHIEF (TRAVELING) position at Spalding DeDecker Associates, Inc?
ABOUT THE POSITION
Traveling position for out-of-town assignments. Successful applicants can reside anywhere in the United States and do not need to relocate.

We are seeking a surveying crew chief(s) for meaningful and challenging work. Typical projects include construction layout and as-built measurements on heavy-civil and industrial projects located across the United States. We focus on surveying for steel erectors, general contractors, and construction managers.
We regularly have out-of-town projects that we need to support. The successful candidate will work on these projects for varying lengths of time. This could be three weeks or four weeks on/one week off or other schedules depending on the assignment and situation. We offer generous per-dem for food and lodging, travel bonuses, paid travel time and expenses from and to remote work locations, and competitive pay. The successful candidate will travel to and from the job assignments from their residence, and there is no need to relocate for the position.

We currently have a large project in Bay Minette, Alabama, but other assignments are also possible.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma or GED required; some college preferred
Good communication skills (verbal and written)
The ability to work with others
Exhibit sound and accurate judgment
The ability to motivate survey staff within a team environment
Embrace working with technology and have a stable work history
Have the understanding of reading and interpreting construction plans
Have practical experience in and a good understanding of construction
Prior experience with anchor bolt surveys, steel plumb verification surveys, and layout for heavy-civil and industrial work is preferred
Previous experience as a crew chief, while preferred, is not mandatory for the right candidate.
Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record

Operation, proficiency, and calibration of survey equipment
Ability to demonstrate accuracy, quality, and thoroughness
Meet budget and productivity standards
The operation, maintaining, and organizing of trucks
Safety awareness / Prepared for work every day
Generate suggestions for improving workflow/cost savings
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work outdoors in all weather elements and conditions
Work overtime hours when needed and travel if the project requires it.
Take directions well and communicate effectively.
Stand and walk frequently; lift and carry equipment; use hands to handle tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch.
May also work at heights, on ladders, lifts, or scaffolding as required.
