About The Role
The Equipment Manager will manage a full fleet of primary and secondary equipment for Anchorage and Wasilla terminals. This position will require a deep level of technical knowledge and will provide continual training, guidance, and mentorship to all direct reports. This position will also ensure tasks and assignments are timely executed and will meet all company and safety requirements while ensuring all work orders and services request for the fleet are completed in a timely fashion.

About The Role
The Equipment Manager will manage a full fleet of primary and secondary equipment for Anchorage and Wasilla terminals. This position will require a deep level of technical knowledge and will provide continual training, guidance, and mentorship to all direct reports. This position will also ensure tasks and assignments are timely executed and will meet all company and safety requirements while ensuring all work orders and services request for the fleet are completed in a timely fashion.
What You’ll Do
- Continually focuses on achieving market base profitability through effective management of all fleet and maintenance activities within the assigned area, including cost control, employee development, and high training and safety standards.
- Ability to deep dive technical roadblocks and provide knowledgeable technical expertise as needed to all levels of the Repair Technician team
- Continually set, manage, and monitor all repair technician training and goal requirements
- Ensure all defined service level requirements are met daily, weekly, and monthly and report all results to the executive leadership team.
- Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem
- Plan, direct, and monitor preventive maintenance and repair programs for all company vehicles
- Ensures safe and reliable vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
- Manages effective utilization of vehicle assets.
- Maintains and updates company asset register.
- Conducts fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
- Ensures maintenance shop is adequately staffed, and mechanics are properly trained.
- Effectively utilizes Manager (Vehicle Maintenance System)
- Complies with Span Alaska Transportation, DOT and FMCSA standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
- Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shop through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
- Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
- Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
- Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
- Updates and submits required reports/invoices in a timely manner.

- High School diploma (or equivalent) required
- Vocational training resulting in certification required
- Three to five years’ experience required
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary qualifications to successfully perform the duties of the position
- Ability to manage multiple priorities as well as material resources
- Must be able to read schedules, hazardous materials documents and other maintenance related paperwork as well as make proper equipment selections
- Solid equipment maintenance track record
- Extremely strong control precision and spatial orientation awareness
- ASE Diesel Mechanic Certification or equivalent experience
- Forklift Certification
- Class B CDL required (Class A preferred)
- Clean driving record
- Valid Medical Card
- Ability to move up to 200 pounds utilizing proper moving equipment
- Ability to independently move up to 70 pounds
- Ability to use proper lifting techniques when needed
- Must be able to operate all maintenance and warehouse equipment repetitively which may include hand dexterity, grasping, reaching, bending, and/or feeling

- Ability to walk, lay or stand for long periods of time
- Strong core strength
- Strong body coordination and equilibrium Ability to work in a warehouse environment where exposure to the elements and exhaust fumes are likely
- Work is typically performed in a general warehouse environment buy may also be conducted outside in the elements. Exposure to exhaust fumes is likely. Overtime may be mandatory when needed. Conditions may also include exposure to environmental noise.
