Are you interested in supporting a non-profit group seeking to provide support, resources, and guidance to families of children with developmental disabilities and/or special health care needs?
The SPAN Parent Advocacy Network is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower families and inform and involve professionals and others interested in the healthy development of children throughout New Jersey. SPAN is funded through private contributions and grants from government, foundations, and corporations.
SPAN is seeking a skilled and experienced part-time Bilingual Family Resource Specialist. The Family Resource Specialist will work to support the goals of SPAN by enhancing family self-advocacy capacity across multiple systems and encourage youth engagement and self-advocacy. This is a hybrid position, with some work-from-home hours and some hours worked in our Newark office.
The Family Resource Specialist position is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position. Candidates for this position must be New Jersey residents who are a parent of a child five years old or older with a disability or special health care need.
Applicants must work 15 hours per week. This position may require Saturday and Sunday hours. The Family Resource Specialist is also expected to attend quarterly meetings of SPAN staff, as well as various training conferences. All SPAN staff are also required to complete SPAN’s Resource Parent (SRP) training program.
Core Job Responsibilities
- Assist families to navigate multiple systems including education, health care, child behavioral health, vocational rehabilitation services, child care, juvenile justice, child welfare, and community-based service systems
- Disseminate information about specific disabilities, inclusive practices, transition to preschool, transition to adult life, collaborative IEP/IFSP planning, health and mental health, and other child centered services
- Assist professionals to provide more family-centered, culturally competent, and coordinated care and content information
Job Requirements
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Spanish language proficiency is required
- Proficiency with Salesforce is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and internet resources
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated commitment to the goals of the project and the organization.
- Knowledge of Federal/State Laws and Guidance, Federal/State/local community resources
