The SPAN Parent Advocacy Network is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower families and inform and involve professionals and others interested in the healthy development of children in New Jersey and throughout the country. SPAN is funded through private contributions and grants from government, foundations, and corporations.
SPAN is seeking a skilled and experienced part-time Project Co-Director for our organizational capacity team. The Project Co-Director will work jointly with a current Project Co-Director on SPAN's Region A Parent Technical Assistance Center project (NE-PACT). The Project-Co Director works with statewide parent centers and other regional technical assistance centers, as well as national youth/young adult advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders.
The Project Co-Director position is a part-time, salaried, exempt position at 18.75 hours per week. This is a hybrid position, with one day per week in our Newark office. This position may require Saturday and Sunday hours to support SPAN events and conferences. The Project Co-Director is also expected to attend quarterly meetings of SPAN staff, as well as various state and national training conferences. All SPAN staff are also required to complete SPAN’s Resource Parent (SRP) training program within one year after date of hire.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provide effective targeted and intensive technical assistance (TA) for statewide parent centers, community parent resource centers, and other stakeholders in the Northeast region.
- Provide technical assistance focused on non-profit management, including advisory board recruitment, development and support, human resources, office systems, grant reporting, data collection and reporting, supervision, partnerships, communications, and finance and fundraising
- Provides effective outreach to and services for diverse families including self-advocacy capacity building for families and youth; staff development to enable culturally responsive and quality individual assistance and training to families and youth; and implementation of evidence-based practices in early intervention, special education, and transition to adult life
- Participate in on-site visits to Region A Parent Centers as needed
- Conduct workshops and/or facilitate group discussions at the Regional, national and individual parent center conferences and other forums
- Collaborate with the Regional Technical Assistance Centers and the US Department of Education Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) to develop, implement, and review evaluation instruments and needs/assets assessments
- Collaborate with the Center for Parent Information and Resources (CPIR) to provide effective universal TA to Parent Centers
- Provide and oversee provision of TA through a variety of mechanisms (on-site visits, meetings, webinars, social media, shared workspaces, webinars, etc.)
- Represent and/or facilitate participation of parent centers on Technical Assistance & Dissemination Network advisory boards/work groups, the CPIR stakeholder groups, national conference planning committees, etc.
- Provide ongoing training and support
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Understanding and support of the mission and vision of SPAN and the role of the individual assistance program within SPAN
- Outstanding planning, communication & organizational skills
- Excellent project management abilities, particularly with respect to Parent Center collaboration and program management
- Familiarity with and understanding of state and national early intervention, general and special education, transition and adult system programs and developments
- Extensive knowledge of and expertise in non-profit management issues and strategies, including succession planning, board development, fiscal management, personnel management, program planning, outcomes measurement, and program evaluation models and strategies
- Ability to supervise and interact with diverse personnel
- Facility with written and verbal communication
- Knowledge of state, regional and national resources
Job Requirements
- Experience interacting with diverse populations; bilingual candidates a plus
- Experience with computers and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, database software, and internet is essential
- Ability to work flexible hours
- Capacity to exercise independent judgment and sound decision-making
- Demonstrated commitment to the goals of the project and organization
