GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the supervision of the Fairgrounds Lead Worker the Fairgrounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties in the Fairgrounds setting or similar facilities; and performs related work as required.
Essential Functions
Responsible for general maintenance and upkeep of the fairgrounds, including cleaning stalls, and maintaining the grounds and buildings. Keeps flower beds around buildings well groomed, including weeding, trimming, and pruning. Cleans restrooms and facilities, and cleans up trash. Uses of a variety of hand tools such as shovels, pitchforks and brooms. Loads or unloads supplies. Lifts and moves heavy objects, carries dirt, gravel, and hauls shavings.
Prepares fairgrounds (buildings, arena, etc.) for horse shows and trade shows. May work directly with people in all aspects of organizing shows, and ensuring a positive experience occurs during the shows. Solves problems which arise with shows/events, works with court workers.
Operates small power tools, leaf blowers and tampers. May operate pick-up trucks and carts in transportation of materials.
Responds to direction from the lead worker and supervisor. Occasionally performs essential functions on holidays and weekends as assigned...
Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements for this position. Must have professional positive attitude with good communication skills. Must abide by all city policies and procedures. Must be productive while working alone and with others. Must work well with others and be a team player. Will occasionally work weekends with days off during the week. Employee is expected to deal effectively and courteously with the public.

Minimum Qualifications
Prior experience in livestock care or similar experience helpful.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and general public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Must have transportation to and from work.
Must speak English.
Must have excellent design, organizational and planning skills, and strong people skills.
Must be a self-motivated, open minded problem solver that adapts readily to change. This is a hands-on position.
Must have valid driver's license.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL APPLICATIONS
Surroundings involve contact with outdoors, dust, dirt, heat, cold, arid/dry, humidity, wetness noise, fumes and vibrations. Requires working with and around other employees. Occasionally requires working alone.

Occasionally dealing with toxic materials and chemicals. Physical activities include constant standing, kneeling, crouching, handling, balancing, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching and carrying.
