Pay Range: $17.57 - $22.41 per hour based on experience and qualifications (eligible for shift differentials).
Shift Differentials:
Weekday Nights - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 7:00 pm - 7:00 am - $3.00 per hour
Weekend Days - Saturday, Sunday - 7:00 am - 7:00 pm - $3.50 per hour
Weekend Nights - Friday, Saturday, Sunday - 7:00 pm - 7:00 am - $5.00 per hour
Sign-on Bonus Eligible: $1,000
The Emergency Room Technician is a highly visible position in the Emergency Room. Serves as the first point of contact for intake as well as functioning as a team member for responding to medical situations as directed. Completes registration process including verification of insurance and scanning of related authorizations. Attention to detail and exceptional interpersonal communication and organizational skills are required.
Essential Job Functions:
· Observes professional ethics in maintaining confidential information concerning the personal, financial, medical, or employment status of a patient.
· Greets patients and visitors and directs appropriately.
· Responds to emergency medical service calls as needed.
· Receives direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provide technical support to optimize patient care.
· Provides reports on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.
· Coordinate and assists with care as directed.
· Cleans and stocks carts, rooms and changes linens as required.
· Assists with the transport of patient to other departments.
· Assists with resuscitation/CPR and emergency airway procedures.
· Assists with obtaining and documenting vital signs and placement of pulse oximetry, cardiac monitoring and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.
· Assist with other technical functions within position scope of practice, such as: obtaining 12-lead EKG, discontinuation of peripheral IV and saline locks, maintenance and care of specimens for laboratory analysis.
· Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters and nasogastric tubes.
· Decontaminates all equipment, instruments and supplies.
· Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressing.
· Measure and fit crutches; instruct patients on proper crutch and cane walking.
· Maintains use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies.
· Participates in team meetings and in-services as needed.
· Coordinates the admission and insurance eligibility requirements within the facility software; ensures all pre-eligibility requirements for payment, insurance billing is completed.
· Maintains an effective working relationship with Administration, Directors, physicians and their office staff, hospital staff, and vendors to ensure goals are optimized and that good working relationships are cultivated and retained.
· Demonstrates a flexible attitude and is professional in both appearance and approach.
· Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Minimum Required Education/Experience: High School diploma required. Colorado Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B or EMT-I) certification. Must possess current certification in BLS. One year of previous EMS work experience is preferred.
Pre-Employment Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
• Knowledge of use and proper utilization of personal protective equipment.
• Outstanding verbal and written communications skills.
• Knowledge of sterile techniques.
• Ability to engage with and work with other personnel and teams.
• Knowledge of sanitation, infection control, personal hygiene, basic health and safety precautions applicable for work in the Emergency Room setting.
• Knowledge of office procedures including telephone etiquette and use of all office equipment (copier, fax machine, computer).
• Ability to read, understand, and implement policies and procedures.
Note: An acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted.
Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain annual flu vaccination and any job-specific immunizations. Required to submit to a two-step PPD test or other screening process.
Unusual Demands: Work is subject to recurring and inflexible deadlines and frequent interruptions.
