OUTDOOR ADVENTURE GUIDE
SUMMARY:

Spanish Peaks is a private community situated on 3,500 acres nestled at 7,700 feet in stunning Big Sky, Montana. We are about 50 miles away from Bozeman, Belgrade, and West Yellowstone, MT.
The Outdoor Adventure Guide assists with the daily operations of the Youth & Outdoor Adventures Department including but not limited to Youth Programs and Events, Club Activities, and Mountain Activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate Outdoor Adventure Activities & Events for participants of all ages, ability levels, and backgrounds.
- Maintain high standards for safety and risk management both front and back country.
- Be able to operate independently with minimal supervision in high-risk situations.
- Be able to effectively guide backcountry programs in the Montana wilderness.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge on outdoor technical skills, safety practices, and local ecology to elevate member experiences on trips and tours.
- Be able to create positive member experiences through effective communication, confidence in programming, and approachability.
- Provide basic instruction for Outdoor Technical Skills ranging from lessons, static archery courses, backcountry trips, Yellowstone National Park Tours and more.
- Assist in rental program and ensure proper maintenance of program equipment. This includes fly fishing equipment, winter nordic and snowshoe equipment and maintaining a fleet of mountain bikes for summer use.
- Must be able to work outside normal operating hours for early morning and late evening tours.
- Maintain industry standards for safety, risk management and emergency action specific to outdoor activities.
- Ability to coordinate with other departments on scheduling and events.
- Support in trail maintenance and sign installation for on-site trail system including the use of power tools such as chainsaws, drills and various hand tools.
- Ability to drive golf carts, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and ATVs as needed to reach remote areas of the property.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience working as a guide for naturalist excursions and/or technical adventures preferred.
- Ability to work with members and guests of all ages.
- Knowledge of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, Custer & Gallatin National Forest, Beaverhead National Forest (natural history of the area, local flora and fauna) preferred.
- Willingness to develop technical and soft skills in Outdoor Adventures required.
- Current First Aid/AED/CPR certification or willingness to obtain.
- Current Wilderness First Aid / Wilderness First Responder plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Fluency in English.
- Highly organized and flexible.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and relate to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Self-starter; able to carry out diverse duties with minimal supervision.
- Ability to create new Outdoor Adventure Programming and standards.
- Knowledge of hotel, resort and/or club operations preferred.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License with good/clean record.
- Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of the job, the Outdoor Adventure Guide is required to be physically active for up to 8 hours a day. The associate must regularly lift and or move up to 30 pounds and sometimes lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. In addition, this individual will need to participate and supervise physical and active sports and games with children and adults. Most activities will require working outdoors, which may be in inclement weather. This position is also required to support trail maintenance projects. This is a highly active position.
