Schedule : Monday through Friday

Travel : Local travel is required

Salary : $34.50-$37.50 DOE

Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach more than 8,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include : early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Concord. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 350 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.

Program Summary

The Children and Family Services programs include Head Start, Early Head Start, State Pre-Kindergarten, Home Based Services, and Developmental Play Groups. Over 700 children birth through kindergarten entry and their families receive child development and comprehensive family services through the Unity Council. The programs are diverse, multilingual, developmentally appropriate, culturally responsive, and individualized for each child and family services are provided in multiple centers and two home base programs throughout Oakland and Contra Costa County.

Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Professional Development Manager, the Coach Coordinator organizes the coaching structure of the program and provides direct practice-based coaching to the staff as well as technical assistance around program fidelity in compliance with the Head Start Performance Standards. Essential elements of the coaching and training are based on the curriculum that reflects the cultural values and diversity of the families served while ensuring school readiness goals are successfully met.

Responsibilities

  • Establish collaborative coaching relationships with teachers, including focused classroom observation, reflection and feedback, goal setting and active planning;
  • Providing coaching to select teaching teams as assigned by Workforce and Professional Development team; Coach teaching teams and Earn and Learn interns as needed;
  • Works closely with the Education Managers and Professional Development Coordinator to create and provide an environment for onsite classroom-based coaching, training and technical assistance to reflect program needs and support the continuous quality improvement process in alignment to School Readiness Goals and Early Head Start / Head Start Program Goals.
  • Collaborate with managers and coordinators to identify, develop and provide additional training as determined by surveys, emergent issues, observations and other agency needs.
  • Works closely with the Education team to inform and support the continuous quality improvement process reflective of each center's Quality Improvement Plan;
  • Support data collection efforts to document teacher's growth and gauge coaching effectiveness and teacher professional development;
  • Collaborate with consultants, professional development coordinator and managers to ensure : mandatory trainings (OHS, CDE, CCL) are included in annual training plan;
  • Collaborate with Center Directors, School Readiness Coordinators and Professional Development Coordinator to create Professional Development Plans for the teaching team and assist teaching team on signing up for PD opportunities and additional courses;
  • Support and assist with developing content and presenting training to facilitate teacher's professional development and classroom best practices;
  • Provide guidance and input on training development plans for school readiness goals, Creative Curriculum fidelity, CLASS, family engagement, Teaching Pyramid, and dual-language instruction.
  • Collaborate with coordinators on providing orientation and training of teachers, home visitors, and family advocates on best practices and provide resources to develop and enhance skills as needed.
  • Enter and update staff professional development and coaching data and records into SharePoint and Child Plus database;
  • In collaboration with Professional Development Coordinator oversee and monitor Head Start professional development system and implementation;
  • Research and identify staff development opportunities;
  • Plan and present small group workshops on relevant child development topics based on program monitoring outcomes;
  • Provide guidance in conducting DRDP assessments, ASQs and intentional daily observations of children's play, behavior, and interactions;
  • Collaborate with School Readiness Coordinators and Education Managers to create curriculum for training purposes on DRDP, Learning Genie, Creative Curriculum / My Teaching Strategies, CLASS, Environments, ASQs, Teaching Pyramid.
  • Participate in the annual child development Self-Assessment process;
  • Collaborate with Workforce and Professional Development team for Earn and Learn program planning, oversight, program needs and events.
  • Facilitate the process and procedure for the Coaching Strengths and Needs Assessments for staff
  • Collaborate with Education Managers and Workforce and Professional Development team to create policy and procedure for agency-wide coaching
  • Provide guidance on yearly reports (PIR - Coaching documentation)
  • Meet with coach consultants on regular basis to establish progress of teaching teams
  • Coach and train Teachers and Master Teachers on leadership skills;
  • Coordinate with CECMP (California Early Childhood Mentor Program) for staff development and mentorship through application process and continued progress.
  • Consult on further expansion projects as needed.
  • Complete assigned professional development trainings;
  • Knowledge of systems software and technical skills.
  • Regular local driving to multiple bay area cities is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual Spanish / English Strongly Encouraged
  • Bachelor's degree required; preferred degree in Early Childhood Education, School Psychology, Educational Psychology, Special Education, Speech & Language, Elementary Education, Educational Administration;
  • Three or more years of experience working with children ages 0-5 years of age in a classroom setting
  • 3 years community-based experience in a setting working with families and community organizations who have experienced poverty, crisis, trauma, and other adverse events.
  • Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) experience (open to obtaining within 12 months of hire)
  • 6 units in Infant / Toddler (open to obtaining within 12 months of hire)
  • Experience with ITERS / ECERS, Creative Curriculum, CSEFEL (open to obtaining within 12 months of hire)
  • CLASS reliable (Infant, Toddler and Pre-K) within 12 months of hire;
  • Familiarity with PLC (Professional Learning Communities), PBC (Practiced Based Coaching), TLC (Teacher Learning Coaching);
  • Demonstrated ability to provide coaching for early learning teachers;
  • Experience in eLearning processes and technologies desirable;
  • Knowledge of Early Childhood Education developmental milestones with an emphasis on social emotional, early math and / or early language and literacy;
  • Possession of a valid California drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance, or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy;
  • Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously and able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, with some travel.
  • Essential Functions

  • Advanced computer skills with strong MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and social media skills;
  • Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopier, fax, etc.);
  • Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk;
  • Regularly required to use hands to operate a computer and other office equipment;
  • The employee must regularly lift and / or move up to 40 pounds;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus;
  • Commitment to utilize safe lifting techniques for lifting children, supplies and furnishings.
  • Regular local driving to multiple bay area cities is required.
