Job Title: Program Assistant (Full-Time)
Reports To: Program Director
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week (Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM)
Salary Range: $19 - $21 per hour
Location: White Plains, Westchester County, NY
Job Overview:
In this role, you’ll play a vital part in creating enjoyable and meaningful experiences for participants in our day program. Your commitment to ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of participants will positively impact their physical and emotional health. This position offers excellent experience for graduate students studying special education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and recreational therapy. It provides a valuable opportunity to build resumes and gain practical skills working with people with disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing hands-on support and guidance during various recreational activities.
- Ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of participants, prioritizing safety in every interaction.
- Collaborating closely with our team to facilitate engaging recreational activities that promote participants’ physical and emotional well-being.
- Maintaining thorough and accurate records to track participant attendance and dismissal.
- Offering support as participants work toward achieving milestones, fostering personal growth, and building self-confidence.
- Implementing a variety of pre-planned activities that meet the needs of the participants in our programs.
- Exemplifying the core values and mission of the organization.
- Assisting with administrative tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Experience in athletics, the arts, film, or recreational therapy. Knowledge of the Special Olympics is a plus but not required.
- Preferred (but not required): Hands-on experience working with people with disabilities or in a related field.
- Passionate about fostering a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Willingness to travel within the Westchester County area.
Skills & Competencies:
- Self-motivated, punctual, and responsible for collecting payments for participants’ food and drink.
- Exceptional organizational skills and a professional demeanor.
- Proficiency in computer use and effective communication, both written and verbal.
- Ability to provide support to the program coordinator and other team members as needed.
- Must possess physical abilities relevant to the safe facilitation of specialized programs, including emergency evacuations.
- Ability to meet these requirements with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Strong problem-solving skills in response to issues with participants or program logistics.
- Commitment to adhering to the organization’s core values and ethical standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly.
- Capacity to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
