Full-Time Caregivers

For Developmentally Delayed Young Adult in North Ooltewah

Job Description:

We are looking for compassionate and dedicated caregivers to join our family in providing exceptional care for our 22-year-old daughter. She is a delightful young adult with a bright sense of humor and a love for activities that reflect her girly personality, including games, videos, dress-up, and jewelry. Despite her cheerful and sometimes mischievous nature, she faces significant cognitive and developmental delays, functioning at the level of a 3 to 5-year-old child. She also has mobility challenges and primarily moves by crawling or using a wheelchair. Additionally, she has been diagnosed with Epilepsy and Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood, requiring specialized care and attention.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision & Safety: Provide constant, vigilant supervision to ensure our daughter's safety and well-being.
  • Engagement: Involve her in age-appropriate activities that cater to her interests and developmental level.
  • Mobility Assistance: Support her mobility needs within the home and during outings.
  • Health Management: Administer medications, manage G-Tube feedings, personal and hygienic care, incontinent care, showers, and monitor her overall health.
  • Domestic Duties: Household/housekeeping duties only as they pertain to our daughter.
  • Behavioral Support: Calmly and effectively manage situations where she may become frustrated or exhibit challenging behaviors, often related to seizures or communication difficulties.
  • Communication: Maintain clear and open communication with our family regarding her care and any changes in her condition.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with Parents, healthcare professionals, therapists, and other caregivers to provide consistent and effective care.
  • Nut Allergy Protocols: Adhere to protocols to manage daughter’s nut allergy effectively.
  • Asthma Protocol: No Smoking/Vaping, No Strong Perfumes or odors.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required. All necessary skills will be taught on the job.
  • Character: Demonstrate patience, empathy, and a positive attitude in all caregiving duties.
  • Composure: Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations, with effective deescalation skills.
  • Training: . Willingness to undergo on-the-job training in medication administration and G-Tube feeding if not already certified.
  • Physical Ability: Must be physically capable of assisting with mobility tasks and providing hands-on support as needed. Hoyer lift, Slide board, and transfer wheelchair are available on site.
  • Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with our family and other caregivers.
  • Transportation: Must have reliable personal transportation.
  • Pet-Friendly: Must be comfortable with our two medium-sized, high-energy (but well-behaved) Vizslas, who are an integral part of our family and often snuggle close to our daughter.
  • Background Check: Must be able to pass a background check; performed by Consumer Direct.

Compensation & Employment Details:

  • Direct Hire: This is a direct hire position with compensation and management provided through Consumer Direction for TennCare, offering you the security of a third-party payroll system.

  • Compensation: Approximately $18.50 per hour.
  • Benefits: No additional benefits are offered with this position.
  • Self-Employment: An LLC is not required. Taxes and Forms will be filled out and managed through Consumer Direction.

Schedule:

  • Sunday: 12pm - 9pm
  • Monday: 3:15pm - 8:45pm
  • Tuesday: 3:15pm - 8:45pm
  • Wednesday: 3:15pm - 8:45pm
  • Thursday: 3:15pm - 8:45pm
  • Friday: 3:15pm - 8:45pm
  • Saturday: 9am - 9pm
  • (Total: 50 hours per week, *split between multiple caregivers.)

*No caregiver can work more than 40 hours per week. Ideally, this role will be divided between a primary caregiver working 25-40 hours per week and a secondary caregiver working 10-25 hours per week. Additional caregivers may be trained and available for respite or PRN shifts. We are open to discussing minor adjustments to the above schedule to accommodate school or other commitments.

This is a full-time position offering competitive pay and the opportunity to make a profound difference in our daughter’s life. We understand that many of our applicants may be college students who will eventually graduate and move on to their own careers. However, for the stability and well-being of our daughter, we request that potential applicants be prepared to commit to working with her for at least one year.
