The long-term substitute teacher will be responsible for teaching Environmental Science and the Science of Cooking to high school students. The successful candidate will help students make connections between scientific concepts and real-world applications, while fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. Building positive, trusting relationships with students will be a key aspect of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach environmental science topics such as soil science, land usage, and types of pollution (air, water, terrestrial, etc.).
- Teach the science of cooking, focusing on food chemistry, nutrition, and the role of science in culinary practices.
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that align with state standards and school curriculum.
- Assess student performance and provide constructive feedback to support student growth.
- Manage classroom behavior and create a respectful, safe learning environment.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support student learning and development.
- Build positive relationships with students to create an environment where they feel valued, heard, and motivated.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in group science or a related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
- Previous teaching experience, preferably at the high school level (substitute teaching experience is a plus).
- Strong ability to develop rapport with students and build positive, trusting relationships.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team and adapt to changing needs.
- Passion for teaching and creating an engaging, student-centered classroom environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching Environmental Science or a similar subject.
- Background or interest in cooking, food science, or culinary arts.
- Certification in teaching or related field.
