What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Studies Instructor - Physics position at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology?
The General Education Instructor conducts training in the named discipline to establish best practices for education. This instructor provides training to meet and maintain current standards of accreditation, applicable federal and state licensing, as well as national, state and local regulations.
Essential Functions
- Instruct students in the named discipline by conducting in-class presentations and activities
- Plan lessons and other course content for efficient use of class time
- Prepare and provide an instructional syllabus reflecting course objectives
- Follow and maintain daily lesson plans and course Study Guides; ensure their compliance with the current approved course syllabus
- Demonstrates proper Safety practices when using equipment and for lab assignments
- Maintain and completes grade and attendance records, advisory reports and other documents
- Administer evaluations and assigns homework
- Comply with established company policies and procedures
- Administer and grade exams and lab projects required for the assigned course of instruction
- Provide curriculum resources to include the library and campus activities
- Ensure student compliance with all established student policies and procedures
- Provide student remediation as needed and within normal workday
- Assist with student retention
- Compile and maintain records of attendance for time missed and provide adequate opportunities for students to make up time missed as necessary within normal workday
- Participate in self-improvement and awareness programs provided by the College
- Perform other essential duties as may be required
Knowledge / Skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, managers, staff, students and the public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and trigonometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to operate a computer, edit and create documents using Microsoft office products to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
Qualifications
Education and Work Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- A bachelor’s degree is acceptable for faculty teaching a non-degree general education course. Must be qualified to instruct up to three of the different course sections.
- Master’s degree or MS with minimum 18 credit hours in/or closely related to the discipline being taught; or equivalent in applicable curricula/specialty AND four years related field experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience required

Majority of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation using a computer. Must be able to read and interpret documents, spreadsheets, and view computer screens for extended periods. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger; and talk or hear.
