Job Responsibilities
Performs administrative support services to the Director of Student Disability Services and other department staff as appropriate; schedules appointments, distributes information to prospective students and program participants; maintains records and assists with reporting; maintains part-time personnel records and employment agreements. Provides assistance to all SDS students while focusing on students that request counsel or have additional needs.
- Serves as initial point of contact for visitors and prospective students, answers questions, provides information and directions; takes incoming calls and routes appropriate messages and information. Maintains accurate and confidential records for SDS students, virtual record-keeping and filing, and management of notes provided by notetakers. Receives and processes documentation for student intake, absence verification requests, student visits, and communications, as needed.
- Provides assistance to current and prospective students, including scheduling testing, intake, follow up, and other SDS related appointments. Provides self-advocacy counseling throughout the semester. Helps students assess current standing and options moving forward.
- Assists with digital accessibility needs. Captions and creates accessible documents as necessary.
- Maintains active student registry; assists in preparing progress reports and program accountability reports. Manages sending and tracking of student surveys and responses. Prepares and manages outgoing student correspondence and communication, including reminders, announcements, trainings, and instructions.
- Selects candidates for temporary / part-time positions, in coordination with Human Resources. Manages hiring process of temporary / part-time positions, communicates with applicants. Coordinates work schedules, temporary employment agreements and part-time payroll for SDS. Assists as needed in preparing and managing schedules of part-time notetakers, interpreters, captionists, and other support staff for SDS accommodation recipients.
- Performs other duties as requested by the supervisor and other program directors. Pursues continued education and training related to disability services. Maintains memberships to professional organizations such as AHEAD and SC AHEAD to stay knowledgeable and current in how disability law is being interpreted and applied in SC. Maintains office supplies and departmental equipment inventory.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
High school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area, plus 1 year of related work experience; or associate degree in a related area, plus 3 years related work experience; or HS diploma plus 5 years related work experience. Ability to communicate and interpret American Sign Language (ASL).
