POSITION SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Solid Waste Coordinator, you will perform a range of duties involving waste management, customer service, and regulatory compliance. This position requires attention to detail, the ability to handle financial transactions, and excellent interpersonal skills to interact with the public.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Vehicle Inspection and Weighing: Accurately weigh vehicles entering the landfill, verify the origin of trash, and ensure the absence of hazardous materials.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by collecting fees, issuing appropriate receipts, and directing vehicles to the designated disposal areas.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain a general knowledge of landfill disposal regulations and ensure adherence to them.
- Operations Support: Assist in various maintenance and manual tasks involved in the landfill's daily operations.
- Record Keeping: Keep records and documentation related to landfill activities.
- Communication: Effectively communicate with colleagues and the general public, offering assistance and guidance as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be physically able to exert up to 10 pounds of force and perform tasks that involve reaching fingering, and repetitive motions. Must have excellent verbal communication skills are essential for interacting with customers and colleagues. Good visual acuity is necessary for tasks such as data analysis, the use of measuring devices, and ensuring the accuracy of work.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Prior clerical experience is preferred.
LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid South Carolina Driver’s license
- All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System.
