Location: Woodruff Leisure Center

Hours: 40; days and hours worked will depend on needs and may include early mornings, late nights, and/or weekends.

Days Worked: Monday – Sunday; as needed

Position Type: Full-Time, Salaried, Non-Exempt

Salary: Grade 12; Minimum starting salary $47,458 annually

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

The Parks Department maintains, operates and manages selected public parks and recreation facilities in Spartanburg County, including sports fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation centers, trails/greenways and blueways. The department also provides a variety of recreation programs for Spartanburg citizens of all ages and abilities and promotes/supports sports tourism. The award-winning department is dedicated to public safety and quality customer service, achieved through cooperation and teamwork. Parks Department employees are expected to report to work on time, ready to work and to complete assigned duties to the satisfaction of their supervisor. Department employees must also be flexible; employees typically have a primary work assignment but may also be asked to work in secondary assignments to meet customer demands and take advantage of opportunities to provide new or enhanced recreation programs.

POSITION SUMMARY

· Management of the Woodruff Leisure Center to include programs and facility

· Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Recreation Manager or the Recreation Manager, depending on assignment

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Assist in the scheduling and coordination of facility rentals that include indoor spaces and multipurpose field to include oversight of contracts and permits with customer groups

· Facility management, inspections, and preventative maintenance

· Develop an after-school and summer camp curriculum with level-appropriate educational and recreational activities

· Supervise full-time staff, part-time staff, contractors, and volunteers

· Ability to anticipate project needs, discern work priorities, and meet deadlines with little supervision

· Willingness to work evenings and weekends including being on-call when not at the facility

· Provide outstanding customer service, be an enthusiastic professional, and be able to build relationships with internal and external customers

· Perform a variety of miscellaneous duties such as answering the telephone, running errands, picking up supplies as needed, conducting activities, making arrangements for rentals and use of facilities, helping set-up tables and chairs, cleaning, collaborating with community partners, etc.

· Administrative duties such as preparing bank deposits, creating usage reports, meeting with patrons, scheduling staff, etc.

NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Develop and facilitate various recreation programs, directly or by utilizing recreation contractors and volunteers

· Work is highly varied, in response to seasonal and customer demands, but could include assistance at community centers, youth programs, outdoor recreation programs, senior programs, therapeutic recreation programs, and/or special events

· Collect statistical information and prepare reports, as directed

· Work is performed both inside and outside, depending on services provided and may take place in uncomfortable conditions such as extreme heat or cold, etc.

· Comply with County policies as well as Parks Department regulations and procedures

· Promote customer and visitor compliance with all rules, regulations, and safety practices; report all accidents/injuries and ensures that injured parties receive proper care

· Additional assigned duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Must have 2-5 years of work experience in coordinating recreational or athletic activities

· Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, or related field

· Proficiency in English required

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office software applications required

LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER REQUIREMENTS

· Must possess or be able to obtain certifications in CPR/First Aid/AED and NRPA’s Certified Parks and Recreation Professional as well as other position specific certifications, as directed

· Must successfully pass pre-employment screening processes, including drug screen, criminal background check, and clean driving record

· All regular full-time and part-time employees of Spartanburg County are required by state law to participate in the South Carolina Retirement System

· Possession of a valid driver's license issued in the state of South Carolina

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS
