POSITION : Behavior Specialist, 2025-2026
LOCATION : District Office
QUALIFICATIONS : Master's degree in psychology, social work, special education, or a related field; at least 5 years of experience working with children in a school or behavioral health setting; certification in behavior analysis (e.g., BCBA) or similar credentials preferred; strong knowledge of behavioral techniques, crisis intervention strategies, and evidence-based practices in behavior management.
REPORTS TO : Director of Special Services
GENERAL SUMMARY :
The Behavior Specialist will work with students, teachers, and school staff to address and manage behavioral issues in the school environment. The specialist will assist in developing behavior intervention plans, provide individualized support, and implement positive behavioral strategies to improve students' social, emotional, and academic outcomes. The Behavior Specialist will collaborate with educators, parents, and other support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Work with school teams to conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) to identify the root causes of behavioral issues.
- Work with school teams to develop and implement behavior intervention plans (BIPs) based on assessment data.
- Analyze student behavior and implement strategies to improve behavior and promote positive change.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address student behavioral challenges.
- Establish rapport and work positively with staff and students to foster a constructive environment.
- Provide training and support to school staff on behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Work with parents and guardians to discuss behavior plans and student progress.
- Monitor the effectiveness of behavior interventions and adjust strategies as needed.
- Maintain records of behavior data, intervention outcomes, and progress reports.
- Provide regular updates to school leadership and parents on student progress.
- Offer one-on-one behavioral coaching to students as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention to de-escalate situations and ensure student safety.
- Promote strategies to encourage positive behaviors and improve students' social skills.
- Stay current on best practices and research in behavior management and educational psychology.
- Develop materials and resources for students and teachers as needed.
- Attend professional development opportunities, conferences, and workshops.
- Ensure behavioral interventions align with school policies and legal requirements, including IEPs or 504 Plans.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information and behavior records housed in the student information system.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Conducts duties in a classroom environment with no significant exposure to environmental conditions. Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require constant attention and working with students. Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring lifting / moving of items up to 25 pounds. Occasional local travel is required; no overnight travel is required. Job requires the operation of standard office equipment.
