Job Summary:
The Barista’s primary focus is in creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for students, faculty, and visitors alike. The Barista’s primary responsibility will be to craft exceptional coffee and espresso beverages while providing outstanding customer service.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Ensure the quality and consistency of coffee beverages, adhering to recipes, standards, and brewing methods.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards to ensure a hygienic environment including behind the register, tables, and equipment.
- Provide friendly, efficient, and personalized service to customers always. Greet guests with a warm welcome, take orders accurately, and ensure orders are delivered promptly with attention to detail.
- Process transactions accurately using the POS system, handle cash and card payments, and maintain cash drawer integrity. Follow cash handling procedures and reconcile transactions at the end of each shift.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
- Prior experience in a customer service or food service role, preferably in a coffee shop or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of coffee brewing techniques, espresso drinks, and specialty beverages.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Working Conditions:
- May work long, irregular hours that include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must stand for extended periods.
- Are often exposed to hot and cold temperatures.
- Occasionally work near contaminants and hazardous equipment.
- Often work in a noisy and distracting environment.
