What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chaplain position at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System?
Position Summary
Provides direct patient care on assigned units, member of interdisciplinary treatment team, attends to spiritual/emotional needs of patients, families, & staff. Takes in-house on-call responsibility in rotation on weekdays and weekends. Responds to all deaths, codes, critical events, and traumas; attends to ordered screens and consults and to referrals. Responds to requests for consultations on healthcare ethics and advance directives. Provide accurate information and support to area clergy and congregations. Serves as preceptor for CPE students.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree
Experience
- Good relationship skills
- Good computer skills
License/Registration/Certifications
- Connection to Faith Group and in good standing (i.e. licensed, ordained, endorsed or certified)
Preferred Requirements
Preferred Education
- Masters of Divinity or equivalent (under some circumstances life experiences and other theological training are also considered)
Preferred Experience
- One year or more of ministry experience

Core Job Responsibilities
- Engages in spiritual and emotional interventions for patients and families throughout the hospital.
- Makes initial visits to patients and families in all hospital areas.
- Responds to all codes as needed engaging in spiritual and emotional interventions.
- Documents all spiritual and emotional interventions with patients and family in medical chart(s).
- Reports pertinent on-going patient and family spiritual and emotional needs to on-call chaplains and CPE students.
