PRN-Ultrasonographer - Breast

Position Summary

Responsible for performing all breast ultrasound examinations for Bearden Josey Center for Breast Health – Spartanburg and Pelham rendering preliminary interpretations of exams, supervising control of work flow, assisting Radiologists in biopsies and aspirations, clerical duties such as data entry in EPIC, maintenance of equipment and maintaining ACR accreditation. 

Minimum Requirements

Education           

• Associate Degree in Health Science

Experience        

• 2 years’ experience in a breast center

License/Registration/Certifications       

• Registered RDMS in physics and breast or registry eligible
• Maintain RRT registry if applicable
• If applicable, South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association Licenses
• Current Basis Life Support (CPR and AED) provider

Core Job Responsibilities

• Perform breast ultrasounds
• Assist radiologist with invasive breast procedures
• Review images for quality and tissue acquisition
• Explain procedure to patient reducing anxieties and obtain patient history relevant to exam
• As requested by radiologist communicate results to patient
• Open communication with scheduling and registration to ensure appropriate physician order is obtained
• Knowledge of breast health best practices and screening guidelines
• Engagement with Breast Imaging Navigator as needed to assist with further patient needs or appointments
• General equipment assessment, reporting any issues to Quality Specialist

• Must exhibit initiative and independence that is required in properly controlling work flow.
• Must demonstrate discretion in handling confidential information and work professionally with

patients, families, physicians, other departments; and occasionally with manufacturer’s technical representatives during equipment surveys.

• Must be able to guide and direct less experienced employees, such as may be required when performing more complex procedures.
• Must be able to make clear and quick decisions, both written and verbally.
• Must be able to coordinate supplies and assist in minimizing damage to imaging equipment.
• Must withstand physical activities such as lifting, pulling, pushing, and transporting of patients.
• Must be able to stand and work up to 8 hours per day.
