Internship - Garage Mechanic

Spartanburg Water, a water and waste water utility provider is seeking a Garage Mechanic intern to support the Fleet Service department with day-to-day task at our Garage and work sites. Works hand in hand with the Spartanburg Water mechanics to maintain and repair Spartanburg Water fleet.  If you are interested in real hands on mechanic experience, this is the internship for you. 

·         Assist mechanics with various technical tasks associated with gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. 

·         Assists mechanics with preventive maintenance on gasoline and diesel equipment.  Task include replacing brakes, changing oil and filter, lubricating, replacing hoses and belts, replacing hydraulic hoses, valves and cylinders, checking pressure systems, tire repair, etc.

·         Utilize various types of references, equipment and tools to assist mechanics with maintenance and repairs.  Includes OTC on­board diagnostic equipment, software repair manuals, standard repair manuals, mechanic hand tools, hydraulic floor lifts, tire changer, tire balancer, hydraulic hose machine, jack stands, air impact wrenches, battery tester, charge system tester, anti-freeze tester, mobile fuel dispenser, etc. 

·         Assists with the preparation of vehicle maintenance reports, preventative maintenance schedules, daily work orders, and purchase orders. 

·          Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including customers, team members, and supervisor.

·         Pursuing vocational or technical school training in mechanics.

·         Lift equipment weighing up to 60lbs. 

·         Some knowledge or interest in garage mechanics 

·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

·         Hourly rate $12.50

·         Work side-by-side with experienced mechanics

·         Get hands on experience in a garage

·         Gain knowledge of Spartanburg Water system
