Spay Today has an opening for a veterinary assistant to manage the surgical recovery area in our clinic. Do you enjoy being around animals? The recovery assistant takes care of our patients as they wake up after anesthesia and surgery. A successful candidate will be comfortable working with animals, can multi-task in a fast paced environment, can stand, kneel and sit repeatedly and will be able to lift 50 lbs. Former experience in a veterinary clinic is a plus.
Training will be provided.
This job is fulltime. Hours are 7am to 5pm Monday - Thursday.
Job Summary: Responsible for daily care of all surgical patients. Provides team leader and surgeon with assistance during intake, preparation, monitoring, recovery, discharge, cleaning and all daily chores deemed necessary to support our mission.
Reports To: Team Leader/Surgical Veterinarian/Clinic Director
Job Description/Responsibilities:
· Provide excellent patient care and client service
· Weigh and place animals in cages at check in
· Prepare recovery area and surgical suite
· Transport patients from kennel holding areas to surgical preparation area
· Restrain patients for preoperative exams, preoperative medications, induction and intubation
· Preparation of patient for surgery as instructed
· Monitor patients while on gas anesthesia
· Assist surgeon during procedures when necessary
· Knowledge of terminology, equipment, instruments and supplies necessary to assist surgeon
· Transport of patients from preparation area to surgy table, surgical suite to recovery area and recovery area back to holding kennel
· Monitor patients when recovering from surgery
· Monitor temperature, pulse and respiration when recovering a patient
· Monitor vital signs during recovery
· Understanding of patients overall mentation and when to extubate/transport patient back to holding areas
· Communicate to all team members and surgeon unusual recovery behavior or any other health concerns that seem extraordinary
· Thoroughly clean and disinfect all instruments, endotracheal tubes, masks or any supplies used on a daily basis
· Perform ongoing daily cleaning of all kennels, public areas, laundry etc.
· Spot clean throughout the day
· Do laundry throughout the day
· Ongoing cross training and understanding of veterinary assistant 2 tasks
· Willingness to participate on special projects and event
· Available for normal work hours 4 days/week, 10 hours/day
· Preparation and participation in special classes i.e. CPR, anesthesia, all ongoing training necessary to complete Spay Today’s humane mission
· All other duties as assigned by Spay Today management team
