Job Summary: the Clinic Wellness Veterinarian is a trained and licensed veterinarian responsible for providing wellness/preventive care for owned dogs and cats. The Clinic Wellness Veterinarian may also be responsible for performing other wellness services that arise in clinic and community environments.

Summary of Essential Responsibilities:
•    Perform all work in accordance with SPCA of Texas protocol;
•    Provide preventive/wellness services such as vaccinations, disease and parasite testing, and owner counseling per scheduled wellness day;
•    Oversee all aspects of veterinary care during the shift, including potential emergency care, restraint, euthanasia, and treatment.
•    Provide a compassionate environment for animals and pet owners living in poverty.

Summary of Essential Job Tasks:
•    Perform physical examinations and diagnostic/medical procedures in a way that will deliver the highest quality care while minimizing patient stress and discomfort.
•    Explain physical examination findings, communicate to the client a diagnosis of the animal’s problems, and generate and present a treatment plan for the animal.
•    Maintain open communication with the Veterinary Technicians to determine the pace of work to be performed.
•    Provide compassionate and patient customer service to clients, when needed.
•    Maintain medical standards of care as set forth by the SPCA of Texas protocol.
•    Direct and evaluate performance of Veterinary Technicians as pertains to medical protocol and patient care.
•    Participate in once-monthly free community vaccines clinics in the field.
•    Develop professional, friendly, and mutually-beneficial relationships with local veterinarians, promoting SPCA of Texas and our mission within the veterinary and animal welfare community.

Abilities Required:
•    Static Strength: the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 40 pounds.
•    Judgment and Decision Making: the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
•    Oral and Written Expression: the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
•    Monitoring: the ability to monitor and assess performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
•    Emotional and Mental Requirements: the ability to work effectively under stressful conditions and in a high-volume, fast-paced clinic and shelter environment. Ability to rapidly and accurately process information.

Applicant Information:
•    Applicant must have Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent.
•    Applicant must have current Texas State Veterinary License and DEA license or the ability to obtain both before the start of employment.
•    Applicant must provide proof of and maintain personal liability insurance.
•    Applicant must be interested in the animal welfare population and serving low-income and underserved communities.
•    To best serve the needs of our community and clients, the shift for this position is Tuesday-Saturday, 8:30 am-5 pm.
