Animal Care Manager
The Animal Care Manager oversees the Animal Care Team and daily workflow of the department, including scheduling, motivating, evaluating, and coaching. The Animal Care Manager will develop and implement creative and innovative ideas to improve animal flow, animal care, and behavior modification for pets housed in SPCA facilities. This position will identify and address opportunities to improve our quality and capacity for animal care.

Pay: $50,000- $52,000 salary with scheduled salary increases at anniversary of hire date

Essential Duties:
- Continues the growth and development of best practices of the SPCA animal
care program through innovation and process improvement - Identifies and addresses opportunities to improve animal welfare and flow
through the SPCA’s adoption program
- Communicates effectively with animal care team to ensure the pets in our
care receive behavior modification plans in a timely manner; responsible for
monitoring the implementation of these plans - Ensures that the animal care team is implementing fear-free handling of
SPCA animals at all times - Encourages and maintains a standard of excellence for the animal care team
by motivating, evaluating, and coaching - Creates and supports a positive work environment for staff and volunteers
- Works closely with the supervisors to ensure that the animal care team is
functioning appropriately - Addresses team issues and creates performance improvement plans as
needed; responsible for ensuring these are documented and followed up on - Provides guidance and intervenes as needed to resolve customer and
volunteer concerns, while maintaining excellent customer service and
professionalism - Responsible for team scheduling and payroll duties
- Maintains excellent communication with other managers to ensure a unified
approach to the SPCA’s mission - Maintains excellent communication with direct supervisor and alerts
supervisor to any potential concerns in the department - Places orders for other supplies as needed and ensures accurate inventory
Essential Functions:
- Leads animal care team by developing staff training plans, providing positive
guidance and coaching or corrective action when necessary - Creates and supports a positive work environment for staff and volunteers
- Responsible for setting measurable goals for animal care team
- Embraces fear-free handling and ensures the animal care team is well-trained
in fear-free methods - Maintains the efficient flow of animals through the intake and adoption center
- Strives to create, develop, and implement processes that will shorten the
length of time each pet is in our shelter, while maintaining a safe and
comfortable environment for them - Maintains best practices to help ensure the safety of the pets and people at
the SPCA
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years supervisory experience
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- High degree of professionalism and customer service
- Strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently and lead others
- Passion for the mission and core values of the SPCA of Wake County
- Expert knowledge of companion animal behavior and humane handling
- Able to meet physical requirements of the job as described below
- Must have a positive attitude and collaborative, team-oriented leadership style
