ABOUT US:
The SPCA of Wake County is seeking an experienced Major Gifts Officer to join our team. Founded in Raleigh in 1967, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County (SPCA Wake) is an independent, 501 (c)(3) animal welfare organization and shelter. SPCA Wake serves over 50 North Carolina counties through collaborative partnerships that save pets and help people. Funded entirely by charitable support, SPCA Wake provides vital community programs that pick up where local government agencies leave off.
SPCA Wake employs 75 people and is located in Raleigh, NC, just two miles south of the 440 beltline. The Development staff is a highly motivated and cooperative team of six operating in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment to raise $5 million in annual support. In addition, we are in the public phase of a $27.5 million campaign to build North Carolina’s first-ever regional campus for pets and people. To date, $21.7 million of funding has been secured with another $5.8 million left to raise before January 2026. POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for increasing charitable support revenue by strengthening relationships with donors through moves management strategy. This position will manage a caseload of approx. 125 -150 donors to retain, cultivate, and upgrade their giving and involvement with the organization, as well as help recruit and maintain new donors. The position is responsible for securing funds to meet or exceed the fundraising budget. The Major Gifts Officer works closely with the Development and Communications team, CEO, and the Board of Directors to implement and sustain funding strategies.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage a portfolio of 125 – 150 donors and prospects and increase the value of the portfolio by annually determined amount.
• Maintain 5-7 meaningful touchpoints with Donors per week including tours of the shelter, off-site meetings, informative and meaningful conversations with donors.
• Make 4-5 phone calls and/or emails to Donors and prospects per day to set up meetings and cultivate donors.
• Solicit gifts from Donors for missioned based programs, signature fundraising event and more.
• Collaborate with the development team to strategize fundraising ideas and goals to maximize revenue.
• Input information into CRM donor management software to track and cultivate donors.
• Elevate 100 new donors per year from internal mid-major giving program, and/or add qualified new donors from external leads.
• Identify, manage, and cultivate relationships with existing major donors and intermediate donor prospects.
• Actively recruit new Donor opportunities and revenue streams through calling, warm leads and office visits.
• Collaborate with Development team to adhere to revenue and expenses outlined in the budget.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum 5 years in Non-Profit Development, specifically direct experience with gift solicitation
• Proven track record of success in soliciting gifts over $5,000
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant professional experience
• Experience using moves management
• Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel
• Experience with Salesforce CRM a plus but not a requirement
