About Us:
The SPCA of Wake County is seeking a Marketing/Communications Specialist to join our team. Founded in Raleigh in 1967, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Wake County (SPCA Wake) is an independent, 501 (c)(3) animal welfare organization and shelter. SPCA Wake serves over 50 North Carolina counties through collaborative partnerships that save pets and help people. Funded entirely by charitable support, SPCA Wake provides vital community programs that pick up where local government agencies leave off. 

SPCA Wake employs 75 people and is located in Raleigh, NC, just two miles south of the 440 beltline. The Communications staff is a highly motivated and cooperative team of two operating in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment. In addition to our daily life-saving work, we are in the public phase of a $27.5 million campaign to build North Carolina’s first-ever regional campus for pets and people. Position Summary

This dynamic, creative communications professional reports to and works closely with the Director of Communications to create and implement the marketing, media, and promotional activities of the SPCA. The Marketing Specialist captures the lifesaving work of the SPCA and tells the story via social, print, digital and broadcast media for purposes of engaging constituents and converting them into donors, adopters and/or volunteers. This position will be responsible for staffing and/or helping to organize community outreach events that may involve working with volunteers, transporting animals, and manning off-site tabling events.

Schedule: 9:00am-5:00pm Monday- Friday

Essential Functions

1. In collaboration with the Marketing Manager, regularly generates strategic, engaging social media content to recruit, educate, fundraise, and expand the message and mission of the SPCA. 
2. Responsible for collecting engaging photography and videography that shows constituents how their support helps to save lives on a daily basis.
3. Responsible for identifying compelling engagement opportunities by seeking out, researching and telling the captivating, lifesaving stories of the SPCA through video, print, and digital communications, including but not limited to: social media content, digital appeals, and newsletter material. Includes driving to off-site locations for content gathering.
4. Works with the Communications team to maintain current, and garner additional, opportunities for SPCA publicity, and present appropriate on-brand messaging to the media in the form of media alerts and press releases.
5. Responsible for coordinating community outreach events that may involve working with volunteers, transporting animals, and working off-site tabling events.
6. Responsible for story generation and graphic design for both digital and print collateral.
7. Serves as a proof reader to all external-facing content, with acute eye for detail, design and copy editing.
8. Understands and fully internalizes the SPCA’s brand and its role in creating messaging materials.
9. Meets weekly, or as needed, with the Director of Communications to report progress on goals, get new assignments, and discuss ongoing ones.
10. Must have capacity to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work independently while functioning as a member of the development and communications team
11. Demonstrates proficiency in the organization’s core values.
12.  Responsible for promoting and supporting a positive team environment at all times.

Qualifications

1.  A degree, or equivalent experience in Communications, Marketing, PR, or related field.
2. 1-2 years experience creating original social media content (personal or professional), including short-form video. Has a deep understanding of rapidly-evolving social media culture and trends.
3. Proficiency in all major social media platforms, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office 
4. Working knowledge of macOS environment.
5. Salesforce experience preferred but not required.
6. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
7. Has an eye for design and good understanding of design principles.
8. Has a passion for the cause, highly motivated, and has a strong work ethic.
9. Is willing and open to learning new methods of communication; strives for growth.
10. Has the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
11. An understanding of writing for different outlets (email, social media, print).
12. Capacity to complete assignments and other duties as assigned.

Other:

Must be comfortable working with and being in close contact with animals (dogs, cats, small mammals, etc.) 

Some training will be provided. 

Open office space is shared with dogs and cats. 

Valid NC driver’s license required.
