What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Support Services Manager position at SPCA Serving Erie County?
The Community Support Services Manager is responsible for providing strong, encouraging leadership and support to the Community Support Services team (staff and volunteers) by communicating regular and ongoing feedback and assuring adequate staffing and training. Together with the team, they assess the pet-related needs of the community and identify the most beneficial resources or assistance for individuals based on situation, ability, and access through understanding and recognizing underlying needs. This is a human-service based, public-facing position that focuses on alternatives to animal surrender and overall shelter admissions. The successful candidate is responsible for the flow of all animals into the shelter and communicates and collaborates with other departments in positive and harmonious ways. This individual understands the resources of the organization and external resources and will have a guiding vision and direction to support the needs of both the shelter and the community. They will thrive in this fast-paced position and be adaptable, compassionate, organized, and forward-thinking.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Hiring, supervision, promotion, discipline and termination of community support services department staff; providing regular, on-going feedback and timely evaluations.
- Maintains files, records, and statistics that include but are not limited to; services needed/requested, reasons for animal surrender, number of animals surrendered annually, daily and hourly, etc.
- Ensures the public receives accurate information and friendly service and assists staff with situations involving angry and distraught customers.
- Prepares budget, projection figures, program estimates, and payroll information.
- Monitors revenues and expenses in relation to the annual budget and regularly reviews and modifies procedures to maintain an efficient yet effective service department.
- Conducts and participates in meetings with staff to review procedures, discuss workplace issues and share ideas to improve the community support services program and animal care.
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with our other community agencies and organizations.
- Sets standards for and monitors conduct of shelter admission employees to ensure that a humane philosophy is projected to the public and implemented in the care and handling of animals.
- Oversees the development of work plans. Assists in scheduling and assignment of priorities for shelter.
- Creates and maintains contracts with municipal agencies.
- Creates and ensures the implementation of policies and procedures as it relates to animal intake.
- Participates in daily shelter rounds.
- Maintains close working relationships with other departments to ensure open lines of communication are present as it relates to animal intake.
- Participates and sits on shelter committees as needed.
- Participates in creating a thriving culture of philanthropy at the SPCA Serving Erie County by increasing awareness and support of our organization.
