What are the responsibilities and job description for the NYS Peace Officer position at SPCA Serving Erie County?
This position is designated to the Investigations Division to identify animal cruelty and assist in the prosecution of these individuals. This officer will assist in rescuing sick/injured domestic and wild animals within the community. The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating criminal matters and maintaining all pertinent legal paperwork associated with criminal charges and arrests. They will be responsible for writing reports of their activities and communicating with other departments within the SPCA to provide pertinent information.
This position requires a willingness to have a flexible schedule, to include weekends, and assist with calls and evening court sessions. They must also have the ability to assess each situation and provide feasible solutions for both the animal and the owner. The officer will also work with the public to provide community resources, including internal resources and external resources like veterinary assistance and low-cost vaccination clinics.
A valid New York State Driver’s License and clean driving record is required along with 2 years of related animal handling experience and/or training; New York State Peace Officer status to include annual qualifications, firearms qualification, and defensive tactic qualifications required.
