What are the responsibilities and job description for the Veterinary Services Manager position at SPCA Serving Erie County?
The Veterinary Services Manager assists with the administration of the shelter infirmary and office duties which may include shelter spay/neuter, low-income public spay/neuter clinics, and wellness programs. Assures adequate staffing of the department which includes the coordinator of staff, volunteers, and student interns.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate performance and recommend merit increases and disciplinary actions to the veterinary staff with the support of the CMO
- Participate in the selection, training, and supervision of the veterinary staff
- Work closely with veterinarians and the veterinary technician supervisor to determine staff duties and schedules
- Respond to phone calls and email messages
- Ensure that the infirmary is clean and orderly
- Create and maintain accurate files and records, especially pertaining to medical, surgical, and euthanasia records. Prepare monthly and state quarterly reports.
- Maintain proper inventory, storage, handling, and documentation of all substances, supplies, and functionality of all medically related equipment within the department
- Write and update Standard Operating Procedures for the Infirmary staff
- With input from CMO helps submit budget to the director and follows established annual budget and updates to the SOP
- Participates in committees and works on special projects, as needed/assigned
- Delegates staff to help run the free parvo vaccine clinics
- May represent the department in regard to media requests
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable State and Federal laws
- Ensure that the controlled substance logs are properly recorded
- Perform other duties as requested, including cleaning cages, restraining animals, and moving animals as necessary
- Creating and maintaining veterinary staff work schedule
- Complete scheduled reports and maintain all statistics of the department
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
· Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
· Two to five years experience in a veterinary facility; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
