Foster Care Program Coordinator
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

This position manages the Foster Care Program to maximize the foster placement of animals into foster homes, rescue partnership placement, and foster to adopt.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for tracking all aspects of the animal's progress during the foster assignment and managing length of stay to effectively transition to the next phase.
- Timely scheduling and coordination of vaccine appointments, medical check-ups, re-checks, spay/neuter surgeries, behavior updates, and managing the entry of all related data.
- Supervise and guide foster volunteers to ensure they follow all animal care instructions in accordance with spcaLA foster guidelines, and that medical and behavioral plans are being properly implemented.
- Manage and enhance the rescue partnership program to ensure animals are quickly transferred to rescue groups without any delays.
- Strengthen the long-term foster care program and staycation initiatives to provide enhanced foster care support resources for animals.
- Develop and launch a foster-to-adopt program to provide a pathway for animals to transition from foster care to permanent homes.
- Oversee the Caring Animal Network Program.
- Act as a liaison between veterinary services, behavior & training, VPHE and protective custody for placement of animals into foster homes and monitor such placement.
- Work closely with volunteer services to continuously evaluate foster needs, recruitment, retention, and screening of applicants. Conduct regular foster orientations and trainings.
- Manage, maintain, and distribute foster supplies.
- Play a crucial role in assisting with shelter events, mobile adoptions, and other events as assigned.
- Work irregular hours and shifts as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Skills: Required: Excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), leadership and customer service skills.
- Experience: Required: Progressive related experience working at an animal shelter or veterinary environment.
- Ability to: Handle complex situations with volunteers, and/or the public professionally and diplomatically; execute projects with little or no supervision; multi-task and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of: Safe/humane handling of animals of varying sizes, temperaments, and strengths. Various breeds of dogs, cats and other domestic animals, various kinds of animal behavior and illness identification.
- Software: Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and Outlook) Preferred: Shelterluv and/or other shelter management software; Microsoft Teams; Zoom.
Other essential qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and maintain insurability to operate Society vehicles during course of employment.
- Ability to operate vehicle under all types of weather conditions.
- Dealing with possible unruly, vicious, sick, injured, and dangerous animals and impounding the same safely and humanely. Possible exposure to parasites and infectious diseases.
- Mobility to stand, walk, sit, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands, fingers; reach with hands and arms; perform work, which involves lifting, carrying and/or pushing of 50 lbs. or more.

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
