Job Description
- Ensures that specimens received in the laboratory are handled properly as to identification, numbering and preparation as smears or cell blocks.
- Makes initial diagnosis on all cytopathology consultations.
- Makes final diagnosis on all negative gynecological material; refers all abnormal gynecological material and all non-gyn material to pathologist for final diagnosis.
- Utilizes laboratory computer information system to enter results correctly and enter necessary QC/QA information. Must be able to retrieve necessary patient information.
- Recommends changes in procedures to address quality issues and provide customer satisfaction.
- Participates in formal and informal education related to clinical cytology and cytopathology.
- Records and maintains accurate records regarding slides screened and hours required for screening.
- Must be ASCP certified in cytotechnology with a baccalaureate degree or equivalent from an accredited college/university.
- Must be able to move continuously about hospital and between workstations, and prolonged periods of standing.
- Must be able to understand directions and be able to communicate and respond to inquiries; requires effective interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards and flammable liquids.
Salary : $72,000 - $91,000
