Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant
Job Summary: Performs medical examinations, selected diagnostic and therapeutic task and procedures to assist in the care of gastroenterology patients.
General Summary:
The Gastroenterology Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant functions as an active member of the interdisciplinary team that works under the general supervision of the surgeons and collaborates with providers with managing patients presenting for consultation and pre-operative and post-operative visits for endoscopies.
Essential Job Functions*:
- Performs history and physical examinations, formulation of care plans, ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests and provides education to patients and their families.
- Coordinates the care of patients in order to provide safe, effective, efficient and timely patient centered care. Liaises between providers, clinical staff and referring providers.
- Consults with physicians or surgeons regarding the care of patients for more complex diagnosis.
- Documents clinical encounters clearly, precisely and in a timely manner.
- Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professional to determine health needs of patients and families. Demonstrates and role models an interdisciplinary collaborate approach to patient care.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to the job.
- Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers,patients,families and visitors.
- Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra and inter-departmentally.
- Meets organization's customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
- Education
- Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or accredited Physician Assistant Program.
- Work Experience
- Previous experience in primary care or gastroenterology
- Skills:
Excellent customer service skills.
Experience with electronic health record.
Ability to work independently.
Ability to maintain confidential information, possesses strong organizational and interpersonal skills and commitment to excellent patient experience.
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations: NH APRN or PA license; BLS
