Radiologic Technologist/CT Tech

 

General Summary:

The Radiological Technologist provides patient services using imaging modalities; assists the Radiologists and physicians efficiently, and is able to perform all routine clerical and support functions, as well as being able to use all radiology equipment to assist with diagnostic procedures.

 

Essential Job Functions*:

 

RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGIST

  • Correctly identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s requisition either hard copy or in computer system, for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
  • Completes all necessary history concerning patient exam, including pregnancy and allergy information as stated in the department policy and procedure manual.
  • Assesses patient condition, moves, assists, and immobilizes patients as needed to assure patient safety, comfort, and modesty.
  • Reviews each examination for technical accuracy,  presents completed examination to appropriate supervisor, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of the patient following the procedure.
  • Uses proper shielding and radiation protection in accordance with the departmental Radiation Protection program.
  • Takes into account patient age and physical condition, using exposure charts to assure proper exposure.
  • Monitors patient condition during their stay in the department, before and after examination, and when contrast media is administered.
  • Assures that all diagnostic x-ray equipment is utilized properly and proficiently in accordance with manufactures guidelines and departmental procedures. 
  • Reports equipment failures to supervisor and annotates problem on the equipment log.
  • Uses computer system in document correctly and accurately patient information, regarding scheduling and entering orders into the hospital information system and Radiology Information System.
  • Manages images through modality-CR/DR-RIS-PACS and performs all established quality checks.
  • Accepts and completes assignments as directed by the department Director.
  • Follows work schedule, rotations, and call assignment and weekend/holiday rotations as required.
  • Cross train into other modalities as assigned.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
  • Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission, vision and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
  • Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
  • Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.

CAT SCAN

  • A technologist who is cross trained in CT must meet all of the ACR requirements and have ARRT certification. The Technologist upon completion of training shall pursue Advanced Certification in CT within two to three years, and maintain required CEU levels in this modality.
  • Sets the appropriate technical factors on the equipment based on the patient’s medical condition, physical characteristics and type of procedure performed.
  • Prepares and administers various contrast media such as barium and iodine in accordance with radiologist supervision, and departmental policy and procedures.
  • Follows manufacturer guidelines in the appropriate use of diagnostic equipment, and protocols established by the department, Radiologist, and manufacturer when operating the CAT Scan equipment.
  • Technologist will obtain the appropriate CEU level in order to perform CAT Scan examinations.
  • Will demonstrate competency with equipment and procedures as defined by protocols after initial cross training period has been accomplished.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education      

Required:  Graduate of accredited R.T. program

 

Preferred: Associates Degree in Radiologic Technology

 

  • Work Experience

Required: Clinical Rotation with Radiology Program, will accept new graduates.

 

Preferred: One to three years experience as a Rad Tech, with training in other modalities such as CAT Scan, Mammography, Bone Density.

 

  • Licensure/Certifications/Registrations

Required:  ARRT Certification or Registry eligible.

Registry should be completed within one year after date of hire, unless arrangements have been made with the Director for extenuating circumstances. 

Maintain CEU level adequately. Must remain current in registration and provide proof of good standing annually.

Maintain CPR certification.

Maintain other certifications based on modalities.

NH State License for Medical Imaging-Radiologic Technologist (effective January 1, 2019).

 

Preferred:  Advanced level Certifications such as Mammography and CAT Scan if cross trained into those modalities.

 

  • Other Skills/Knowledge

Required: Knowledge of computer systems and applications related to Radiology.  Must be able to use computer applications in daily work.
