Urgent Care Manager, Department of Nursing
General Summary:
Under the direction of the Nursing Director, the Clinical Coordinator (Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Paramedic (RP)) is responsible for directing, planning and coordinating the operational, financial, clinical, quality, and administrative duties of the Plymouth and Meredith MedCheck Urgent Care sites.
Essential Job Functions*:
Leadership

Ensures the sites/department is in compliance with related regulatory offices and guidelines, (ex. OSHA, HIPAA, DPH, DOT, NH DHHS-licensing, and Speare Memorial Hospital policies and procedures, etc.).

Provides clinical expertise and leadership support to the staff in the delivery of safe, quality, patient/family-centered care.

Supports staff by assisting with patient care activities/family interventions to enhance quality and the patient/family care experience.

Oversees flow of patients and assists with staffing plans and considers patient volume, needs, acuity, as well as staff mix and skill.

Serves as a liaison/resource for providers and other members of the healthcare team.

Oversees daily operations, creates staff schedules and delegates work assignments to providers and staff. Serves as designee for activities such as payroll and charge verification.

Demonstrates an effective working relationship with all members of the health care team, patients, families, and visitors.

Complies with, and holds others accountable to hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations, and standards as related to job.

Assists in the development of evidence based policies, procedures, and protocols to support high standards for patient care. Reviews and revises departmental policies at least annually and ensures that policies and procedures are revised/developed based on research of best practices.

Develops annual plan and associated budget, regularly monitors financial performance to budget and expected volume and implements corrective action plans as needed to ensure efficient use of resources.

Demonstrates skill and efficiency in allocating, coordinating and using funds, equipment, facilities and materials based on strategic initiatives and related goals.

Ensures department has appropriate supply levels, in accordance with volumes and department needs

Completes annual performance evaluations and sets clear performance expectations through establishment of performance goals, performance improvement plans and professional development plans.

Serves as a professional role model and mentor to staff and promotes personal development.

Oversees and supports the orientation of new staff and ongoing competency assessment and development of existing staff.

Collaborates with Staff Development Coordinator and Director to plan and develop departmental education plan.

Responsible for administering departmental education (e.g., in-services, etc.)

Acts as a change agent and supports staff through complex change.

Responsible for chart audits and education regarding documentation needs.

Qualifications:

Education
Required: Associates Degree or completion of an approved Paramedic program
Preferred: Bachelor of Nursing or higher for Registered Nurse

Work Experience
Required: Three (3) to five (5) years RN/RP experience in acute care related to the department. Experience with staff supervision. Certification in Chain of Custody (COC) and Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) within 6 months of hire.
Preferred: Previous supervisor or management experience.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire, or multistate registered nurse compact license. Certified EMT-P (Paramedic) in the State of New Hampshire.
Current BLS certification (adult, child, and infant)
Preferred: ACLS and PALS

Other Skills/Knowledge
Required: Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient and staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to make independent judgments in times of need along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources. Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner. Ability to teach/demonstrate new skills and equipment and follow through on performance issues. Experience with doing performance appraisals, interviewing, disciplining.
Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
