PRIMARY PURPOSE:

                                               

Implement the special education assessment process.  Assess the educational needs of students referred for special education services.  Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

 

Education/Certification:

Master’s degree in educational assessment

Valid Texas teaching certificate with special education endorsement

Valid Texas educational diagnostician certificate

           

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of student with disabilities, State Board of Education Rules, Commissioner’s Rules, and IDEA-B

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to speak Spanish desired but not required

                                                                       

Minimum Experience:

Three years of teaching experience

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

  1. Receive student referral and implement the assessment process.

 

  1. Select and administer a variety of formal and informal assessments to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and Texas Education Agency regulations.

 

  1. Write Full Individual Evaluation Reports, using data from students’ cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), principal, support staff, parents, and outside resource personnel.

 

  1. Complete all paperwork accurately and provide campus personnel with appropriate forms.

 

  1. Facilitate Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee (ARDC) meetings. 

 

  1. Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of IEP.

 

  1. Consult with parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.

 

  1. Maintain all required reports, records, and other documents.

 

  1. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in the area of assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.  

 

  1. Apply skills and strategies for engaging in effective communication, collaboration, and consultation with others (e.g., students with disabilities, parents/guardians, classroom teachers, other school and community personnel) to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities in a culturally responsive manner. 

 

  1. Regular attendance; must be willing and able to report to work at the designated work site on regular daily basis according to established work schedule.

 

  1. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.

 

  1. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.

 

  1. Assist in the selection of assessment instruments. 

 

  1. Serve as a resource for parents, teachers, and administrators.

 

  1. Develop technology skills appropriate to job assignment.

 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of family systems and the role of parents/guardians in supporting student development and the educational progress, and will foster respectful and beneficial relationships between families and education professionals.

 

  1. Articulate the district’s missions and goals in the area of special education to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.

 

  1. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.

 

  1. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

 

  1. Perform other duties as assigned.    

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:        

                                                        

Any interns and/or practicum students assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Mental Demands:

Ability to communicate clearly (verbal and written); ability to instruct; ability to maintain emotional control under stress; ability to manage multiple priorities and to work at multiple sites as assigned.

 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Regular district wide travel; moderate lifting and carrying; ability to travel to multiple work locations as assigned.

Salary : $61,546 - $89,485
