Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Special Education Program Specialist will work collaboratively with the Office of Rural Education and Innovation and Division of Exceptional Children to support district program capacity, services, and supports for students with disabilities in rural districts. The primary function of the position is to assist special education leaders located in rural school districts in promoting development, implementation, and sustainability of priorities identified by rural districts, the Office of Rural Education and Innovation and the Division for Exceptional Children. This include but is not limited to evidence-based instruction, student achievement, school completion, and post-secondary success for students with disabilities. Additional priorities include programmatic supports such as teacher recruitment and retention, special education leadership development, family engagement, and general supervision/compliance.

Description of Duties

  • Assist special education leaders located in rural school districts in promoting development, implementation, and sustainability of priorities identified by rural districts, the Office of Rural Education and Innovation and the Division for Exceptional Children
  • Provide evidence-based instruction, student achievement, school completion, and post-secondary success for students with disabilities
  • Provide programmatic supports in the areas of teacher recruitment and retention, special education leadership development, family engagement, and general supervision/compliance

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Strong district-level background in student services, social work in a school district or related experience in the K-12 setting and working knowledge non-academic barriers
  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and possess one or more of the following:

  • Specialist degree or higher in Special Education preferably, or curriculum, instruction, or leadership
  • Strong knowledge base of evidence-based practices for students with disabilities
  • Experience at the district level in a rural school system
  • Experience in data analysis and the organization and implementation of major educational or public agency initiatives
  • Experience in conducting online webinars, meetings, and teleconferences
  • Strong work ethic, self-directed, and self-motivated
  • Ability to manage multiple, overlapping high priority tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated success in team building and the continuous improvement processes

Submit a copy of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) professional educator certification.

                        **This is a remote field position. Some statewide travel is required.

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of related experience.

Salary : $80,000
