What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Consultant: Multiple Disabilities Education Specialist/Accessibility Specialist position at Special Education Service Agency?
Responsibilities:
Provide consultative services to Alaska school district staff, students, and parents.
Observe students in educational settings to provide/model evidence-based interventions and strategies for the development of functional and educational outcomes.
Provides, in multiple formats (written report, oral reports, audio and video clips, etc.), individualized educational recommendations for students with disabilities.
Provide consultation to support students not meeting academic standards as the result of a print disability.
Communicate and educate on accessibility-related standards and laws. (WCAG 2.0, ADA Section 508)
Develop training materials on accessibility solutions to facilitate accessible formats. Identify and resolve accessibility barriers to provide accessible materials and online content.
Evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis and recommend intervention strategies.
Demonstrate/teach specialized strategies and/or provide topical in-services and workshops to local school personnel, parents, students, peers, and the community.
Assist districts in procuring/adapting specialized instructional materials.
Facilitate interagency collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in special education with suitable experience and training in multiple disabilities or Bachelor’s degree in special education with an emphasis on multiple disabilities.
Recent experience with learners with multiple disabilities.
Experience with distance education technologies, digital learning, and e-module creation.
Implementation of knowledge and best practices in the education of students with multiple disabilities.
Knowledge of current educational practice in the field of technology/assistive technology.
Experience working with learners who experience print disabilities.
Ability to travel independently in rural/remote Alaska throughout the school year.
The requirements for an Alaska State Department of Education Special Education Type A Certificate or a Special Services Type C Certificate have been met.

Flexibility and willingness to learn new skills.
Utilizes and keeps abreast of technological developments in the field of multiple disabilities.
Ability to compile data from a variety of sources (e.g., IEP meetings, student observations, special education teachers, school psychologists, etc.) for the purpose of customizing training and support.
Instructional materials that adhere to accessibility standards. (ADA Section 508/WCAG, ect.) * Accessibility evaluation tools (Chrome, Adobe Acrobat, WAVE).
Training support staff on effective uses of assistive technologies in different environments.
Operating assistive technologies (JAWS, NVDA, embossers, textbook conversation, speech recognition).
