What are the responsibilities and job description for the COORDINATOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION (2025-2026 School Year) position at Special Education?
POSITION TITLE: COORDINATOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Arkansas certification as special education supervisor
Master's Degree in the area of special education or a related field
Minimum of three years of teaching experience
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education
JOB GOAL: Provide expertise and assistance in schools to improve and strengthen special education instructional programs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate, direct, and supervise the implementation of the assigned program according to district policies and procedures.
- Assist teachers in locating, selecting, and using professional and instructional materials.
- Assist in developing and/or writing curriculum and behavior management.
- Assist teachers through demonstration teaching, classroom observation, and visitation.
- Make observations of referred students and participate in conferences when appropriate.
- Plan and conduct in-service programs.
- Assist in appraisal process when appropriate.
- Assist with classroom management, organization and daily class scheduling, lesson plans, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Assist in the selection and use of instructional equipment, adopted materials, and audiovisual aids.
- Provide orientation of teachers new to the district.
- Assist teachers in acquiring and effectively using data for instructional and/or other purposes.
- Assist teachers in locating help for students who have special problems in assigned area of supervision.
- Assist media center specialists in the selection of materials to supplement the curriculum.
- Evaluate special education programs according to district policy.
- Coordinate the integration activities between students with and without disabilities including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals and others involved.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the IEP.
- Provide leadership and in-service training daily for teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Assist in the coordination of referral, evaluation, temporary placement, annual review, due process, and programming conferences for students in the assigned area of supervision.
- Evaluate special education teachers and paraprofessionals upon request and according to district policy.
- Provide expertise in assigned area of supervision.
- Implement the district's desegregation plan.
- Coordinate special education services for students with disabilities in the Early Childhood Special Education Program and/or Mental Health Agency Facilities.
- Coordinate and assist with District and State-wide testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule x Index
Length of Contract: 197 days per year

The performance of this job will be evaluated according to provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
